Master in Creative WritingLocated in the center of San Francisco, USF’s Master of Fine Arts in Writing Program offers graduate students an intimate, personalized learning experience while taking advantage of San Francisco’s vibrant, eclectic literary scene. Founded in 1986, the MFA program is designed to instruct writers in creative techniques, to nurture their individual development and vision, and to help them thrive in the larger community of writers. The two-and-a-half year MFA program offers workshops and literature seminars in the genres of fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. The distinctive design of the program emphasizes the connection between reading and the students’ own writing and fosters collegial relationships among faculty and students in small classes. All courses are taught by accomplished practicing writers, so that both literature seminars and workshops pay detailed attention to craft. Because cross-fertilization enriches creativity, students are free to take courses outside their primary genre and sample a range of cross-genre literature seminars. Because depth of understanding is crucial to successful writing, students also take seminars and workshops that focus exclusively on one genre—long fiction, short fiction, poetry, or nonfiction.  Students’ work culminates in a creative thesis, a book-length manuscript that is conceived, composed, and revised with extensive faculty mentoring.... To many, the United Kingdom is the birthplace of modern theatre and the mecca for anyone who wishes to study drama. With its rich history of Shakespeare, Marlowe, Stoppard, Coward and more, the UK is often seen as the place to not only visit the theatre, but also to study and explore as a student. The UK’s emphasis on and continued support for the theatre makes it an ideal place for aspiring drama and theatre students to pursue their studies, at both the undergrad and postgrad level. Undergrad students can expect to be plunged right into the heart of theatre from day one. As UK undergrad degrees are far more focused and specialized, most students will experience acting on a regular basis and be given far more responsibility and roles as an undergrad than they would have at a US institution. In terms of technical and behind-the-scenes theatre, students will be given hands-on training much faster than they would as an undergrad in the states. Many UG Drama or Theatre courses offer an array of specialties such as acting, directing, or even studying plays themselves from an English degree. Two of our partner universities, the University of Leeds and Oxford Brookes University, offer sandwich courses which adds an additional year of study involving full-time work placement right in the theatre industry, often with playhouses or studios. We currently have 16 partner universities that offer Drama and Theatre courses at the post-grad or MA level of study: - Aberystwyth University -... [-]

Masters in Composition Studies. Welcome to the IX Promotion Welcome to the IX Promotion of the Writing Master Narrative The art and the craft of School of Writers. The Master of Writing Narrative unites - through the experience of the School of Writers - the tradition of the chairs of Creative Writing of the Anglo-Saxon universities with the didactic approaches of European schools and universities members, like us, of the European Association of Creative Writing Programs (EACWP). The objective of the masters is to teach the office of writer and to work the three pillars that make this craft in an art: the technique, the creativity and the sensitivity. Since its creation in October 2009, there are more than ninety students who have participated in this pioneering teaching project in Spain. A writer is done writing, yes, but if he really wants to be an artist of his time, he must also know the literary tradition that precedes and adds to it, the tools of textual analysis, the artistic and thought movements in his dialogue with the writing, or what of the future of the narrative we glimpse at the beginning of the 21st century. And, of course, a writer must establish a channel of communication with himself, with his gaze and his truth, with the sources - always very personal - of his inspiration and creativity, with what he, and only he, has to tell. Technique and sensibility, art and craft; an ambitious goal for which we have designed... [-]

In literature as in politics, Scotland’s national status ‘is both dangled before us and tantalisingly withheld’ (Don Paterson) The Stirling Master’s course views Scottish Literature in the light of this ambiguity, and embraces the many questions it invites us to explore. We explore key figures, texts and debates from the period of Regal Union (1603) to the present, often placing literary writing at the heart of cultural and political debate. Class discussion examines the complex means by which national literary identity is sustained, renewed and re-considered – not forgetting the role of novelists and poets in integrating Scottish identity into the project of Britishness. This is the only Master’s course of its kind. As debate intensifies over Scotland’s cultural and political identity, the time is ripe to examine the role of writing in shaping the image and reality of the nation.
