This program is taught in FRENCH. The 2nd cycle Master's programme offers two possible directions: 1) materials chemistry and engineering or 2) instrumental and applied organic chemistry. In the second year, students choose a specific focus: research-oriented, professional or teaching. Whichever focus the student chooses, he will devote a signigicatn amount of his second year to preparing a thesis with one of the research labs in the Institute of Chemistry or with an associated laboratory (biochemistry, molecular biology, toxicology, pharmacy,...). Students who wish to finish their studies quickly can opt for a one-year Master's programme. It does not allow further studies (doctorate) and may not qualify you for certain jobs. After completing the one-year Master's programme, it is possible to register in the higher secondary school teacher certification programme. The founding of the Department of Technology Engineering dates back to the aftermath of the First World War, when Belgium was in great need of technical engineers to rebuild the country. Polyvalent engineers in the field of electro-mechanics were the first to obtain their degree in 1926.
