The ME (Engineering with Business) is for engineering graduates from any discipline who plan to practice engineering in a business context.
Professional engineers need to understand the environment in which they practice. As their career progresses, engineers are increasingly involved in functions such as finance, quality, marketing and strategy. The ME provides grounding in these areas, to give graduates an understanding of the business implications of engineering decisions. The programme focusses on the practical application of knowledge, which culminates in the 6 month work placement and the industry oriented research project in the final year.
The ME in Engineering with Business is designed to produce fully qualified engineers who have a particular interest in and understanding of the business context within which engineers usually operate. It was conceived to address the perceived lack of ‘industry-ready’ engineers coming out of third level education. Career opportunities are very broad as the ME degree positions the student not as a narrow technical specialist but as a ‘T-shaped’ individual, combining specialist skills with a broad understanding of the business environment. In addition to careers within their technical specialisations graduates can consider careers in commercial roles, management consulting, the financial sector or IT.
Previous employers of alumni include: Accenture, PJ Walls, PM Group, MSD Carlow, Abbvie, Jaguar UK, RPS Consulting, Intel, Deloitte and Boston Scientific.

I am delighted I chose this masters at UCD. Over the course of my studies I completed an eight month placement, a thesis related to industry and a wide range of modules. The course offers insights into many businesses across a range of verticals in Ireland and abroad. I did my work placement in Boston Scientific, a worldwide medical device leader. This placement also resulted in me doing my thesis with Boston Scientific on a project which I loved.
This masters qualified me with the necessary skills to kick start my career. I now work for Boston Scientific as an Engineer in Process Development. The wide range of modules, from management to technology has made the transition from education to the working world very comfortable.
*Courses will remain open until such time as all places have been filled, therefore early application is advised
