The specialized graduate diploma (DESS) in wildlife management is in biology that allows to specialize in the management of wildlife resources in order to measure the impact of interventions on the natural environment and to prepare plans management and planning taking into account the social and economic priorities. It allows a directed work in key areas such as genetics in animal populations, adaptive biology, forest ecology, dynamics of wildlife populations and evolutionary biology. Program Structure The specialized graduate diploma (DESS) in Wildlife Management includes seven lectures and two research activities interlinked: the course Research Methodology (3 credits in the fall) where one learns to good literature review, introduction and methods, and in the winter directed the course work (6 credits) is to perform the analysis, write the results and discussion. Each student is given a project and a supervisor for this report in essay form. The program develops a knowledge base through three core courses and provides for an option of specialization. Candidates who would benefit from this program include: Local baccalaureate graduates from the School of Arts and Science who wish to obtain a master’s degree. Individuals employed in business/industry who wish to develop and broaden their technological and problem-solving abilities. Teachers in science, technology, and mathematics who wish to prepare for a job in industry, develop new technology job skills, or advance within the field of science education Individuals in the region who desire an advanced degree for self-satisfaction or position advancement. Admission requirements In addition to admission by the Graduate School, applicants for the Biology option must be approved by the Biological Sciences department. The Thesis Option is a research-intensive program designed to provide students a strong foundation in fundamental biological principles and theories through coursework and the completion of a faculty-guided research project (thesis). The Non-thesis Option allows students to gain an in-depth understanding of biology through coursework and the writing of a graduate research paper.
