This 12 month MArch Digital Architecture and Tectonics focuses on the role and application of digital technologies and advanced materials and construction methods in the creation of contemporary architecture. The course is designed to ensure that the most appropriate technologies are integrated into comprehensive design thinking. As such, it provides insight into recent technological developments in the fields of structures morphology, performance orientated design, digital modelling, rapid prototyping technologies, advanced materials and construction methods. This course comprises a series of design projects, skills-based workshops and research seminars, through which you will investigate technologies in an interdisciplinary manner to provide innovative solutions that are supported by appropriate technical evidence, testing and modelling. An innovative feature of this course is its research and collaborative nature where associated disciplines work together in the design studio. Students will develop a multidisciplinary approach to exploring fa├žade design through opportunities offered by novel materials and structures, and develop the integrated design skill derived by considering both structural and environmental performance. Students will be encouraged to creatively engage with digital modelling and digital fabrication techniques in the analysis and exploration of design.
