Develop the knowledge of building design practice, methodologies and processes sought after by engineering and architectural design firms and contractors. Our master introduces you to the challenges of managing building design processes and practices in the industry. Using multidisciplinary approaches, you’ll learn how to balance conflicting design tensions in projects and integrate regulatory requirements with low-carbon certification and basic building physics. During the course, you'll explore a range of areas including building physics, regulations and codes, sustainability and well-being standards. You’ll also study the relationship between Building Information Modelling (BIM) and collaborative integrated design management. Using dynamic digital modelling tools, you'll apply your knowledge to optimise low-carbon building envelope solutions. You'll put theory into practice working on live project briefs with students from different construction-related disciplines. This challenges you to solve design problems in real-time while gaining an insight into multidisciplinary collaboration. Combining your research dissertation with a three-month placement allows you to embed what you’ve learnt in a professional context. It also gives you the chance to deliver solutions to real industry problems posed by your company. -

Emphasising design as a research practice, our MArch course challenges you to use your cross-disciplinary skills and knowledge to develop effective strategies and models for sustainable practice. This may be within the context of the production of buildings, the spaces between them or the urban contexts in which they occur. In this course, you'll consolidate your architectural experiences, both in education and in practice, while simultaneously questioning your preconceptions of the discipline. By the end, you'll be equipped to adopt a critical position within the profession and in wider society. -
