The Master of Architecture program attracts a diverse range of students with undergraduate degrees in liberal arts, science, and engineering as well as pre-architecture and architecture. Students progress through the program in anywhere from two to three years, depending on their educational backgrounds. This accredited professional architecture degree offers within its design curriculum a forum for synthesizing parallel studies, in theory, history, technology, urbanism, historic preservation, and visualization. In the design of buildings, landscapes and urban places, the curriculum supports a stimulating setting for diverse cultural expression. Advanced standing is available through three separate paths depending on the academic preparation of the student. A separate two or three-semester non-professional, non-accredited Master of Architecture, Design Studies degree program is intended for those with a degree in architecture or a related discipline. The program is directly tailored to the research interests of the individual student. -

The Master of Architecture graduate program brings together the foundations and professional issues of architecture in a challenging, rigorous, and collaborative environment. With opportunities to design both collaboratively and independently, you’ll achieve an understanding of yourself as an emerging professional. In the Master of Architecture program at UL Lafayette, we have an intense focus on community outreach and topic-based studios. Our faculty are devoted to your professional preparation, and that means bringing great design to the Acadiana community and beyond. In our Master of Architecture studios, you’ll have the option to: • gain hands-on experience helping cities, small towns, and neighborhoods visualize their potential as communities; • design and build sustainable, market-rate homes; and • work in the Louisiana coastal territory to reduce environmental vulnerability, enhance ecosystem resilience, and promote cultural sustainability. -

The MArch I program accepts students from varied academic backgrounds, including non-design disciplines. The complete 90 semester unit program prepares students for a career in architecture and a path to licensure. Students must have completed courses in college algebra, trigonometry, and physics prior to beginning this program since these courses are prerequisites to design studios, structures and environmental controls. The studio sequence consists of three segments: a two-year basic core, topic studios and electives, and a two-semester Master's project. Lecture classes in Architecture Theory and History, Human Behavior, Programming, Sustainability, Professional Practice, Building Technology, Structures, Codes and Digital Media are closely coordinated with the studio sequence, and students are expected to demonstrate their knowledge of these areas in their design projects. Students may also take elective courses in the other graduate programs in the College: Landscape Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning and the John T. Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies. The first-year graduate class usually enrolls between twelve and sixteen students. The program, as a whole, has a graduate population of about sixty students. This number keeps the student/faculty ratio small, but is large enough to provide for diversity of backgrounds, experience, and accomplishments. Students in the MArch I program may select one of three concentrations: Sustainability, Healthcare or Historic Preservation (see below). In addition to offering specialized courses, faculty conduct research in which graduate students may participate. The programs are enhanced by related course offerings in The Departments of Landscape Architecture and Urban and Regional Planning and the John T. Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies, as well as by university owned facilities including the Richard and Dion Neutra VDL Research House, the Lyle Center for Regenerative Studies, the ENV Archives Special Collections and the Visual Resources Library. -
