A master's degree is a postgraduate academic degree. One must already have an undergraduate degree to apply for a master's program. Most master's degree program would require students to complete a master's thesis or research paper.

Animal science includes programs on biology and management of food, laboratory and companion animal species. Students may develop an understanding of animal biology and discover ways to address local and global issues facing animal industries. This is a great field of study for those interested in animal management.

There are more than four thousand higher education organizations in Europe, from leading research institutions to small, teaching-focused universities. Europe itself is not as much different than other continents, reaching from the Arctic Circle to the coast of Africa.

This is an education for students interested in evolutionary and ecological processes at the level of genes, individuals and populations of animals. At the Department of Biology, you will meet teachers who are also researchers in our excellent scientific environment. The research areas stretch from disease resistance in natural populations, host-parasite interactions, diversification dynamics of life throughout evolutionary history, how birds and other animals have adapted to migrate and navigate, evolutionary processes that generate biodiversity, to physiological and ecological mechanisms affecting the balance between reproduction and survival. The programme provides a solid ground for PhD studies but also for employment within consultancy and the public sector. -

Animal and plant breeding are driving the development of new livestock and crop varieties that can cope with the challenges of the changing environment and consumers' demand. Breeding research integrates areas such as quantitative and molecular genetics, biotechnology, and breeding informatics. It has close links to neighboring fields like animal and plant nutrition, animal health, and crop protection, but also marketing, economics, and ethics. Highly specialized experts in this field are required worldwide and have excellent career opportunities in both academia and industry. The International Master Program Integrated Plant and Animal Breeding provides a profoundly interdisciplinary approach to breeding research by bridging the gap between animal and plant breeding; covers all relevant disciplines of breeding research; and is supplemented by external lecturers from leading international breeding companies, research institutions, and national authorities. -
