The main objective is the training of professionals in the analysis, decision-making and management of the phenomena related to the risk society, with special exhaustiveness in the new forms of national and international crime and the management of risks and emergencies.

Aimed at directors, managers, managers and consultants of public and private security in companies or public institutions; to officials of the Security Forces and Bodies; to members of the Armed Forces; and to people interested in developing professionally in this area.

This Master has been verified by the National Agency for the Evaluation of Quality and Accreditation (ANECA), attached to the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. The credits completed in the Master are automatically recognized for access to doctoral studies at any University of the European Higher Education Area.

Presentation and Objectives

The essential objective of the Master's Degree in Security, Crisis and Emergency Management, in its face-to-face and on-line modalities, is to train professionals in the analysis, decision-making and management of phenomena related to the risk society, complying with for this with the following criteria:

  • To train highly specialized professionals in new forms of national and international crime

  • Train professionals in risk management and emergencies

And all this with a common development of competencies in public and private management, political and social analysis, knowledge management and communication management.

The program is aimed at directors, managers, managers and consultants of public and private security in companies or public institutions; to officials of the Security Forces and Bodies; to members of the Armed Forces and to people interested in developing their professional career in this area.

Program

Module I

6 credits

  • Current dimensions of security. Taught by José Antonio Rodríguez (Commissioner of the National Police Force), and Óscar Jaime (University of Navarra).

Module II

6 credits

  • Strategic management of human resources. Leadership and team management. Taught by Manuel Villoria (Rey Juan Carlos University).

Module III

3 credits

  • New information and security technologies. Taught by Enrique Avila (Head of the Information Security Department of the Civil Guard, Director of the National Center of Excellence in Cybersecurity).

Module IV

6 credits

  • Strategic planning and coordination of preventive security devices. Taught by Isabel Bazaga (Rey Juan Carlos University), and Marceliano Gutiérrez (Commissioner of the National Police Corps).

Module V

6 credits

  • Negotiation, mediation and resolution of social conflicts. Taught by Carlos María Alcover (Rey Juan Carlos University).

Module VI

6 credits

  • Public policies and decision making. Taught by Rut Bermejo Casado (Rey Juan Carlos University).

Module VII

6 credits

  • Legal-institutional scope of the security system in Spain. Pablo Acosta (Rey Juan Carlos University).

Module VIII

3 credits

  • Communication management in crisis and emergency situations. Luis Serrano (Director of the crisis area in Llorente & Cuenca).

Module IX

6 credits

  • Knowledge management: information and prospective intelligence. Taught by Fernando Velasco (Rey Juan Carlos University).

Module X

3 credits Optional Module between:

  • Advanced studies in crisis. Taught by Fernando Talavera (Advisor to the General Director of Civil Protection and Emergencies, Ministry of the Interior).

  • Advanced studies in security. Taught by Fernando Reinares (Rey Juan Carlos University).
