About

The University Master in Photographic Documentation. Recovery, Treatment and Diffusion is a new creation and its subject gives it novelty in the Spanish panorama. The National Plan for the Conservation of Photographic Heritage of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport indicates that the teaching of photography at the university level should evolve towards a more extensive training that includes the different agents involved in the creation, acquisition, conservation, description, use and dissemination of photographic funds, including intellectual property issues and analysis of tools for managing digital collections.

The training offer presented participates in this approach and arises in response to the growing interest in photographic documentation and the absence of a public offer in Spanish universities that seeks specialized training on the subject, such as that proposed in this Master. It is intended to underline that the approach of the Master in Photographic Documentation is in perfect harmony with the needs of the institutions and those responsible for this documentation. The training proposal does not end in the traditional field of conservation (which undoubtedly has a singular importance), but attends with equal dedication to training in photographic documentation management in the broadest sense: cataloging, conservation and location of the information corresponding to photographic backgrounds; attention to the legal aspects related to reproduction rights and intellectual property; to their discovery, localization, recovery of supports and maintenance of the "historical" technologies suitable for reproduction and copying on supports suitable for consultation and, as a basic context, the historical and aesthetic formation that allows us to approach these materials for what they are : a fundamental part of cultural heritage of key importance in shaping the historical and visual memory of our recent past.

The implementation of official and quality studies favors the training of specialists and professionals who advance the knowledge of this science. The Master in Photographic Documentation aims to address these deficiencies in the professional, academic and research fields. It offers specialized training geared towards both the knowledge of the photographic medium, its technology, document processing and conservation, as well as its uses and applications in different professional fields. On the other hand, it wants to respond to the need of many public and private institutions to organize, manage and monetize economically and culturally their photographic collections and funds, from recovery to dissemination.

goals

The National Plan for the Conservation of Photographic Heritage of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport indicates that the teaching of photography at the university level should evolve towards a more extensive training that includes the different agents involved in the creation, acquisition, conservation, description, use and dissemination of photographic funds, including intellectual property issues and analysis of tools for managing digital collections.

The Master's Degree in Photographic Documentation arises as a response to the growing interest in photographic documentation and the absence of a public offer in Spanish universities, and offers specialized training aimed at both the knowledge of the photographic medium, its technology, document treatment and conservation , as well as the uses and applications in different professional fields. This training offer wants to respond to the need for public and private institutions to organize, manage and monetize economically and culturally their photographic collections and funds, from recovery to dissemination.

The training program does not end in the traditional field of conservation (which undoubtedly has a singular importance) but attends with equal dedication to training in photographic documentation management in the broadest sense: cataloging, conservation and location of the information corresponding to photographic backgrounds; attention to the legal aspects related to reproduction rights and intellectual property; to their discovery, localization, recovery of supports and maintenance of the "historical" technologies suitable for reproduction and copying on supports suitable for consultation and, as a basic context, the historical and aesthetic training that allows us to approach these materials for what they are: a fundamental part of cultural heritage of key importance in shaping the historical and visual memory of our recent past.
