goals

The teachings of the University Master 's Degree are aimed at acquiring advanced, specialized and multidisciplinary training in the field of Biotechnology, with both academic orientation, for those who want to continue their Doctorate studies; as a professional, either through autonomous exercise, with training that allows laying the foundations for entrepreneurship and the development of technology-based companies, either through work for others, in the business sphere or in the public administration. This Master is also aimed at professionals inserted in the workplace who wish to obtain quality training to reinforce their professional career.

The University Master offers two orientations within Biotechnology, one in industrial aspects and the other directed to the environmental field.

Recipients

Possession of a Bachelor's or Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmacy, Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering or other related bachelor's or degree degrees or with an equivalent foreign degree will be valued as a priority.

It will also be considered a priority to accredit knowledge of English through official certification equivalent to level B2 or it will be verified through the corresponding exam.

Why study this master?

Biotechnology is a growing sector that, in the global context of an economy increasingly based on R + D + i, has demonstrated its importance and economic impact and is emerging as one of the new sources of economic wealth and employment worldwide, the so-called "bioeconomy".

In Spain this field has undergone a spectacular development in the last ten years, positioning itself as a key strategic sector in the economy, to which many companies from other sectors, considered mature, also join massively, who decide to make Biotechnology a new line of business or a tool that allows processes to be more efficient and productive. Both the European Framework Program Horizon 2020 and the Spanish Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation 2013-2020 include Biotechnology in their lines of action. This growth supposes a demand for adequately trained human capital to work in the different types of industry based, totally or partially, on this technology.

Of the five subsectors into which Biotechnology is currently divided (red, green, white, gray and blue), White Biotechnology, which encompasses all those uses of Biotechnology related to industrial production processes including bioenergy production and revaluation waste through biorefineries, is a subsector of emerging Biotechnology, with important growth prospects, key to the development of the bioeconomy. Likewise, the gray Biotechnology which includes the processes applied to the environment in its two aspects of pollution prevention by taking advantage of the by-products generated in other industries (biotechnological or not) and management of the waste originated by bioremediation processes , is also in full development, as the demand for solutions that guarantee the conservation of the environmental heritage is increasing.

This University Master's Degree offers advanced training in Industrial and Environmental Biotechnology, including the internship program in companies or in Public Research Organizations (OPI) in order for students to make contact with companies and research groups in Biotechnology, providing their teaching offer the possibility of establishing future relationships.
