About

The Master in Hispanic American Literature was implemented in the 2010-2011 academic year. It is the only European Master's program devoted entirely to the study of Latin American literature.

The University Master's Degree in Hispanic American Literature aims to respond to the needs opened by the increasing presence of Latin American literary production in contemporary cultural life. The Master's Degree focuses not only on the specificity of Hispanic American Literature, but also on its links with historical, political, sociological and anthropological reality and, at the same time, its relations with other artistic fields and languages.

The University Master's Degree focuses its training on the following aspects:

  • Deepening specific contents of Spanish American Literature and developing fundamental topics not sufficiently analyzed in the Degree.
  • To investigate in less investigated aspects as they are considered marginal within the canon of Spanish American studies.
  • Address new perspectives of reading in classic Latin American texts.
  • Promote interdisciplinary approaches to the subject and investigate the anthropological, sociological, historiographic, artistic, etc., implications of the Hispanic American literary fact.
  • To develop reading skills and the use of various sources of research and new technologies for their specific application in the Literature of Latin America.
  • Promote research autonomy, as well as the pedagogical ability of students in the field of Spanish American literary studies.
  • Training in the edition of Spanish-American texts belonging to the field of colonial literature, which still lack a specialized publication and which, due to their lexical characteristics, require exhaustive theoretical training.
  • Transmit a specific didactic of Hispanic American Literature aimed at a future teaching activity of the student.

Recipients

The Master's Degree in Hispanic American Literature is designed primarily for students who have graduated or have graduated in Hispanic Philology or in other careers related to literary and humanistic studies. However, in certain cases the relevance of accepting students from other areas of knowledge in the program will be considered, provided they have had a relevant contact with Hispanic American Literature.

The knowledge they develop and the skills obtained by the students of the Master's degree will enable them for their future work in the field of teaching and research, but also in cultural management, intercultural mediation, diplomatic relations between Europe and America, the cultural journalism, publishing and other skills that promote your job placement.

Admission requirements for masters

Non-enabling university masters

  • Be in possession of any of the following titles:
    • Spanish official university degree .
    • Title issued by an institution of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and empowering in the country of issue for access to Master's education.
    • Title of educational systems outside the EHEA that empowers in the country of issuance for access to Master's education, homologated or declared equivalent to the degree and academic level of Degree or Degree by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training . In case of lacking the mentioned homologation or equivalency, it will be necessary to have authorization or access permission granted by this University.
  • Or be carrying out during the course in which you pre-enroll studies leading to the obtaining of any of the previous degrees and be in a position to prove the obtaining of the same before September 30, 2020 .
  • In addition, students from foreign educational systems, whose mother tongue is different from Spanish, must prove level B2 of the Spanish language (or higher) .
