About

This Master focuses on one of the most applied aspects of geology, such as the exploration of geological resources, with the aim of reinforcing the professional focus of postgraduate studies and increasing the employability of graduates.

The combination of exploration tools for different types of resources in the same title is aimed at giving versatility to future professionals throughout their careers, whether in the oil industry, mining companies or service companies.

goals

Geological resources are completely necessary for society and also generate first-rate economic activities.

This title addresses knowledge about geological resources generated in sedimentary basins or in deeper geological contexts. Specifically, the University Master's Degree focuses on providing knowledge for the exploration and evaluation of hydrocarbons and mineral resources.

The main objective of the University Master's Degree is to provide specialized and excellent training (theoretical, methodological and practical) to graduates who want to deepen in all those aspects related to the exploration and evaluation of mineral and hydrocarbon resources.

The experience of accredited professionals shows that, depending on the variations in the market for natural resources, these professionals have alternated their work activities between exploration of hydrocarbons and mineral resources. For this reason, this Master's Degree combines the competences that allow the students who study it to work in prospecting for both types of natural resources.

Recipients

Graduates in subjects related to Geology and geological resources, such as Geology, Geological Engineering, Mining Engineering, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Terrain Engineering, among others.

Why study this master?

Climate change and the technological revolution are already engines of global socioeconomic transformation. The imperative ecological transition has its epicenter in energy renewal, today supported by hydrocarbons. Improving the efficiency of exploration, exploitation and use of traditional resources, together with the search for new strategic resources, constitute a major scientific and technological challenge. At the same time, decarbonisation must be supported by technologies such as geological storage or CO2 conversion. The new energy models will also require the exploitation of a huge amount of mineral resources destined to cover the growing demand for a good number of chemical elements, essential for the development and large-scale deployment of the technologies necessary for them. Added to this challenge is the growing need for exploration of strategic minerals, the availability of which is key in the geopolitical map in the short and medium term.

Geologists, geophysicists, and geochemists are the professionals who bear the brunt of your exploration and evaluation. This title aims to create a solid base for research, development and innovation work in the field of exploration of geological resources. Graduates will be trained to carry out their work in public or private centers, institutions and companies for exploration and exploitation of mineral and energy resources.

The Faculty maintains agreements with companies that offer the possibility of developing professional practices and offers highly trained teachers with excellent equipment and material resources (classrooms, laboratories, library) and services (CAI, bus for field practices). The Master has a high content of practical lessons (management of specific software such as Petrel and LeapFrog, laboratory, and field practices with multi-day camps).
