goals

Environmental Geology plays an essential role in the sustainability and viability of the human species on Planet Earth.

The world population, which already reached 7.5 billion in 2017, has doubled in the last 40 years. Associated with this growth is an expansion of infrastructure and urban developments and a constant increase in the demand for natural resources such as minerals, water, soil or energy. The territorial transformation and the demand for resources increase the environmental impact on the land surface and the generation of waste causes the contamination of soils and waters. Simultaneously there is an increase in the number of people and goods exposed to the effects of natural disasters: floods, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, etc.

By 2050, it is estimated that the world population will reach 9,500 million people, so it is foreseeable that aspects related to Environmental Geology will become increasingly important.

The fundamental objective of this University Master's Degree is to address knowledge on climate change, geochemical cycles, sustainable management and conservation of water and soil quality, decontamination and remediation of water and soil, evaluation of environmental impacts, spatial planning and restoration of spaces degraded, as well as risk assessment, management and mitigation. This knowledge will enable the student to carry out or direct Environmental Geology projects.

Among the strengths of the Master's Degree are: a highly trained faculty; excellent equipment, material resources (classrooms, laboratories, library, etc.) and services (CAI, bus, etc.); high content of practical lessons (software management, laboratory and field practices).
