Master's Scholarship: see relevant information here .AboutThe main objective of the Master in Conservation Biology is to train experts in the scientific diagnosis of current problems posed by biodiversity, capable of proposing sustainable solutions and managing them in a socio-environmental framework. Biodiversity is the variety of life in all its forms and levels of organization, including the ecological and evolutionary processes that maintain it. Conservation Biology is a transdisciplinary response to the current planetary biodiversity crisis in the scenario of global change of the Anthropocene, which integrates very diverse disciplines from the field of biology (genetics, botany, zoology, ecology, among others), to the contributions from sociology and economics have been joined.

Biodiversity is the "variety of life in all its forms and levels of organization", including the ecological and evolutionary processes that maintain it, so its conservation requires the training of experts capable of applying "transversal" approaches. The Master's Degree in Conservation Biology reflects this need for integration thanks to the collaboration of the departments and specialists linked to the field of conservation.RecipientsThe Master in Conservation Biology is aimed at university graduates with Bachelor's, Bachelor's or Engineering degrees in biological, environmental, marine, agricultural, forestry and other related areas. Candidates must have their qualifications recognized in the European Union, or process their official recognition through the UCM website when pre-registering. In any case, in order to enroll in this Master, it will be necessary to demonstrate that they have training in genetics, botany, zoology and ecology or accept to take the educational complement that they lack, a condition of which they will be informed during the admission process; This complement may be taken at the same Faculty of Biological Sciences. Given that the classes will be in Spanish, those who are not native Spanish speakers should preferably provide a certificate of level C (minimum B2); A certified level of English B2 will be considered a merit in the admission process (language levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).Why study this master?The academic orientation of the university Master's degree prepares the student for the continuation of his career in any scientific field of Conservation Biology, in universities and research centers and to be able to access Doctorate studies. Also to be considered by the candidates is the offer of field practices that include several subjects, or visits to research centers or administrations and the participation of guests, who enrich the information about the professional world and the company with their conferences .
The specific competences acquired in this Master will allow:
to. Plan, design and develop projects and experiments in the laboratory and field and interpret the results of the research;
b. develop a critical attitude of improvement in experimental and management work, fitting such an approach in the context of adaptive management of species and ecosystems;
c. recognize the role of the scientific method in the diagnosis of conservation problems and its usefulness in the design of experiments leading to the determination of management measures;
d. apply the necessary analytical techniques to infer processes from the information obtained in the laboratory and in the field (direct study of the patterns detected in nature);
and. apply the knowledge gained to suggest explicit management measures in the field of biodiversity conservationAdmission requirements for mastersNon-enabling university mastersBe in possession of any of the following titles:Spanish official university degree .
