About

The Master in Advanced Studies in Social and Cultural Anthropology aims to provide reflection tools to analyze sociocultural reality in a complex way, emphasizing cultural diversity in the framework of multiple specific social relationships (intercultural, transnational, local, political, economic, gender, etc.). To this end, it fosters the development of academic knowledge by enhancing ethnographic treatment and, at the same time, attends to the use of such knowledge for advice and / or the promotion of socio-cultural intervention initiatives and formulation of public policies that take into account the requirements socio-cultural heterogeneity and, in general, the complexity that characterizes contemporary societies.

The University Master's Degree is designed to attend to both the development and promotion of knowledge and ethnographic research on issues related to cultural diversity and its impact on different aspects of citizenship; likewise, it pays attention to the management and use of said knowledge with a view to advising and / or promoting initiatives of socio-cultural intervention and formulation of public policies that also take into account said impact in situations of inter (and multi) culturality. It aims to provide graduates and a wide range of professionals and experts from public and private institutions with reflection tools and advanced methods aimed at analyzing reality, enhancing their work and adapting it to the demands of cultural heterogeneity and, in general, of the complexity that characterizes contemporary societies.

Recipients

Students from the Social Sciences, especially from Social and Cultural Anthropology, as well as from Sociology, Political Science, Social Work, Pedagogy, Social Education, Psychology, Tourism, International Relations, Arts and Humanities, etc., to which it is worth adding those coming from degrees such as Nursing, Teaching, Geography and History, Medicine or Architecture.

Why study this master?

The areas of work in which social anthropologists intervene are mainly the following:

  • Design and intervention in social and cultural policies, in the field of reality analysis and in the formulation of proposals and suggestions for sociocultural change.
  • Intercultural mediation in public and private institutions (education, health, migrations, family, etc.).
  • Local and community development.
  • Advice and awareness in development cooperation institutions and organizations.
  • Enhancement and management of heritage (especially ethnological heritage, but also cultural and natural).
  • Promotion of sociocultural equality and diversity.
  • Carrying out studies and production of own cultural diversity content.

Admission requirements for masters

Non-enabling university masters

  • Be in possession of any of the following titles:
    • Spanish official university degree .
    • Title issued by an institution of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and empowering in the country of issue for access to Master's education.
    • Title of educational systems outside the EHEA that empowers in the country of issuance for access to Master's education, homologated or declared equivalent to the degree and academic level of Degree or Degree by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training . In case of lacking the mentioned homologation or equivalency, it will be necessary to have authorization or access permission granted by this University.
  • Or be carrying out during the course in which you pre-enroll studies leading to the obtaining of any of the previous degrees and be in a position to prove the obtaining of the same before September 30, 2020 .
  • In addition, students from foreign educational systems, whose mother tongue is different from Spanish, must prove level B2 of the Spanish language (or higher) .
