Master's Degree Programme in User Experience

Tampere Universities

Technology is everywhere. We all use various technological systems every day, and it is not indifferent how we experience the use. By studying User Experience at TUT, you will be prepared for the challenges that the design of increasingly complex technological systems has to offer. In addition to purposeful functionality, the systems need to be easy to control and satisfying to use.

Suitable backgrounds for User Experience students are software engineering, computer science, electrical engineering and information technology. Additionally, previous studies in design-related topics or human-computer interaction will be considered as a bonus. A strong motivation for a human-centered design approach is needed to become successful in this field.

Studies

The studies give you a solid practical and theoretical background for understanding, analyzing, and designing human-centered technologies and their user interfaces. A special emphasis is placed on user-centered design methods and their integration in product development, as well as evaluating user experience with end users.

Teaching is jointly offered by Tampere University of Technology (TUT) and the University of Tampere (UTA). User Experience studies are a part of Human-Technology Interaction studies offered by TUT and UTA.

To become an MSc graduate you will need to complete the degree program worth 120 ECTS. The modern study methods consist of lectures, exercises, group assignments, independent studying, and examinations. Courses are worth 90 ECTS and the remaining 30 ECTS are awarded for successfully completing a master's thesis. Each ECTS is equal to an average workload of 27 hours.

The program consists of the following study modules:
