Introduction

The Master's Degree in Sustainable Building (MUES) Is a one-year official study cycle designed to train professionals in the areas of sustainability.

The theme to be developed is currently of great interest due to the entry into force of various national and European regulations, such as the Horizon 2020, Which condition the future of new buildings. From 2020 it will be mandatory that all new buildings be Almost zero power consumption, For that reason the Master has as objective the formation of qualified and specialized professionals that cover this necessity. The training contents, with a Significant practical load, Are oriented to provide professional skills to the student to Respond to the current and future demand of sustainability experts. This higher cycle of studies also promotes the Research career, Directing it towards the doctorate in matters related to the sustainable building, of maximum actuality. The study plan Includes 3 specialties:

  • Certification of sustainability in the building
  • Certification of structural verification
  • Energy audit and certification in building

The Master will have a mixed orientation, professional and research, a necessary way to increase the contribution of knowledge to the building sector.

One of the aims of the Master is to train specialized building professionals capable of achieving the convergence objectives set out in the most recent European directives for sustainable growth (Horizon 2020) and included in the Energy Saving and Efficiency Action Plan Spanish State, which will generate a great demand for specialized professionals.

In addition, this Master will also open the possibility of creating groups and research centers, linked or not to the generation of doctoral theses.

In addition, the possibility of performing Extracurricular External Practices as a complement to the practical training and measure of support to the professional orientation and employability, will allow the student to reach a better contact with the labor reality of the sector.

The implementation of sustainability certification systems such as Breeam, Leed, Green or Passivhaus are some of the tools that this Master promotes in order to propose the necessary reconversion of the building sector and to face the challenge of sustainability. This will encourage the use of new computer tools that will enrich the training and development of students in the different professional sectors.

Multidisciplinarity

Having students and teachers from different professional fields will promote knowledge from other points of view, creating a more complete vision of the importance of sustainability in its many aspects.

What is learned

The Master is in line with the fundamental objective of meeting the need to train specialized building professionals to achieve the convergence objectives set out in the 2012/27 / EU Directive for sustainable growth by 2020 and included in the Savings and Energy Efficiency of the Spanish State for the 2011-2020 horizon. To this end, it is proposed, with arguments, strategies and instruments, the necessary reconversion of the building sector to face the challenge of sustainability, training professionals so that by developing the necessary competencies they can lead this profound sectoral change.

Professional and academic outputs

The University Master of Sustainable Building offers two exits: professional and research.

Research

It will open the possibility of creating groups and research centers, linked to the generation of doctoral theses. Allowing to start the research career, directing it towards the doctorate in matters related to the sustainable building, of maximum actuality.

Professional

The curriculum includes 3 specialties.

  • Certification of sustainability in the building
  • Certification of structural verification
  • Energy audit and certification in building

The itineraries created for each of the specialties constitute a real intensification in competences oriented to different professional profiles demanded for the building sector for the solution of the problems and the scope of the objectives marked by the sustainable growth in Horizon 2020 : Certified technician of the sustainability in the building; Energy efficiency certifier / energy auditor; Technician in structural verification in the building; Technical acoustic and environmental certifier IAQ.

Recommended profile

Based on the current training requirements in Sustainable Building, the recommended admission profile for this Master is:

  • Degree in Architecture
  • Degree in Technical Architecture
  • Degree in Building Engineering

However, it will be accessible to graduates of all engineering studies whose career or research training interests are oriented towards the Master's in Sustainable Building competences.

Common access requirements

In order to access the official Master's degree courses, it will be necessary to hold an official Spanish university degree or another issued by an institution of higher education belonging to another State that is part of the European Higher Education Area, which provides the same for access to teaching Master.

Likewise, graduates may be admitted according to educational systems outside the European Higher Education Area without the need for homologation of their degrees, after verification by the University that they accredit a level of education equivalent to the corresponding official Spanish university degrees and that In the country issuing the diploma for access to postgraduate education.
