The globalization of the economy and local and regional development are undergoing a major transformation. Moreover, the growing importance of knowledge and innovation in strategies for growth and competitiveness of both companies and the territories, the development of clusters as competitive spatial economic environments, and sustainability as a basic component, raise the need an articulated integration of the region in the processes of globalization.

The objective of the Master in "Regional development" is to provide advanced training with an interdisciplinary approach and integrating vocation that allows train researchers to develop substantive tasks of research in the field of regional development.

The proposed Master has its origin in the Graduate Program "Regional Development, Training and Employment", awarded the Quality Mention of the Ministry of Education since 2004 Convocation. The above tradition has led to propose a Master, semi-face character and mainly online, adapted to the new rules, and studies focused on Regional Development.

Justification title

The objective of the Master "Regional Development" is to provide advanced training with an interdisciplinary approach and integrating vocation that allows researchers to be trained with the knowledge, skills, abilities and skills necessary to develop substantive research tasks in the field of regional development. The teaching experience of the professors, the affinity between the proposed training content and the research lines of the professors participating in it constitute an important endorsement for the achievement of the Master's objectives.

The Master's degree comes from the experience of professors in teaching and research carried out for more than 20 years in doctoral programs with contents related to regional development. In fact, this new Master replaces a previous degree: "Master in Regional Development, Training and Employment"; and it has been developed with the purpose of improving the answers in the training given to the current social and economic demands. The new contents are adapted to the requirements of the students, not only the Canary Islands, but also of Latin American and African countries that have traditionally studied postgraduate studies in the titles that precede the proposed new one.

Admission Profile

The Master of Regional Development, is aimed primarily at students of degrees of Social Sciences and Legal and degrees related to the management and design of public policies.

Graduation profile

The graduates in this master's degree will be researchers with the knowledge, skills, abilities and skills necessary to be able to develop substantive research tasks in the field of regional development.

GOALS

The objective of the Master in "Regional Development" is to provide advanced training with an interdisciplinary approach and integrating vocation that allows researchers to be trained with the knowledge, skills, abilities and skills necessary to develop substantive research tasks in the field of regional development. Also, this master has the vocation of providing our students with the training tools that enable them to integrate into the regional labor market.   • Knowing and setting the objectives and instruments of regional planning in training and innovation in services.
  • Analyze and establish actions of R & D and training that can be started from the government to promote regional development.

Orientation and tutoring

Once the student has been admitted to the Master, the Academic Committee will assign a tutor who will be in charge of guiding and guiding the student in their learning process, as well as assisting in the administrative procedures of the Master. The tutor must guide the student in the design of their academic curriculum and actively monitor the development of their academic activity. The tutor in addition to guiding the student in the general aspects of the Master, will inform you about the options that are offered and about the infrastructure available to them. It will also inform the student of the projects in which it can be integrated to carry out the Master's final project. The tutor has to hold periodic meetings with the students he tutoles to analyze the evolution of the learning process, for this purpose he will draw up a tutorial plan in which he will record the activities planned throughout the academic year, issuing a report at the end of the academic year. that will be sent to the Academic Committee.

Within the proposed tutorial Action Plan, two horizontal activities will be incorporated:

  1. Presentation session to the students once the registration is formalized, in which the student's dossier will be explained and delivered with relevant information about the Master.
  2. Presentation session of existing resources in the library and practical session for students to learn the use of available electronic resources.

External practices

This master does not include the performance of external practices, being of research orientation.

Master's thesis

Learning outcomes:

Conceive, design and carry out research in the field of regional development.

contents:

The Master's Thesis will have the characteristics of an article of research published in an indexed journal. The adaptation, copy or use of other works without being referenced will imply the non-acceptance of the work.

Typology of works:

  1. Methodological article (analyze or develop methodologies or approaches)
  2. Analysis article (case studies, plans / projects)

Characteristics:

  • Languages: Spanish and English
  • Format and extension: Arial font size 12, margins 2.5 cm., Single line spacing. The length of the document must not exceed 25 pages, DIN A4 size, excluding notes and bibliographic references. The bibliographical references will be placed at the end of the text following the alphabetical order of the authors and will not exceed 3 pages.
