The MU in Logic and Philosophy of Science by the Universities of Salamanca, A Coruña, Granada, La Laguna, Santiago de Compostela, Valencia and Valladolid, began to be taught in the 2006-07 academic year. The number of registered in the successive promotions has been: 2007-2008; 24 enrolled, 2008-2009; 30 enrolled, 2009-2010; 33 enrolled, 2010-2011; 42 enrolled and 2011-2012; 36 enrolled, which seems to indicate the need that existed to implement this type of studies in the area.
The studies traditionally located within the Area of Logic and Philosophy of Science are present in all those centers in which PhDs associated with the Philosophy Degree are taught. In some cases this fact is reflected in their own programs and, in others, in the inclusion of specific courses within more general programs. The training that requires research in Logic and Philosophy of Science is complex and demanding with the student. The level of training that can be achieved in a master in which only a few subjects of the area appear is clearly insufficient to develop a thesis with ease and become an informed and original researcher at an international level. It also requires a high technical and theoretical level, especially in regard to the scientific content of their subjects, and a broad domain of general resources, we think about the knowledge of languages and computer resources.
Our master has also shown its performance in the high number of students who decide to continue the doctoral studies associated with the master, counting up to 2011-2012 with 49 active doctoral students.
The performance that this training offers to the centers in which it is implanted has been highly valued thanks to the high rate of R + D + I projects active in the area and the number of publications that are generated around them. The existence of several scientific societies, Society of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science and the Spanish Society of Analytical Philosophy, allows the existence of a constant exchange of initiatives between universities and between the scientific fields they represent. In fact, these societies have helped us extraordinarily in the first phase of discussion and dissemination of the proposal.
Academically, the studies of the Logic and Philosophy of Science Area have been characterized by their great sensitivity to the current problems of knowledge, science and technology. At present, the interests of the Area are focused on a wide range of issues articulated in strategic lines of great scientific, technological and social interest.
- The study of logic, the progress that this discipline has experienced and its diverse applications to different areas. The study of information technologies and their formal problems of development, the possibility of Artificial Intelligence, the creation of specific languages for the network capable of supporting useful terminological information in the searches that have given way to the so-called semantic web, are examples in the field of the new information society.
- The study of argumentation, paying special attention to the resolution of conflicts through rational discussion is oriented both to the theoretical problem of rationality and discourse, as well as to the practical scope of cultural criticism and intermediation.
- The study of Science and its social conflicts, the evaluation and processes of implementation of the technique and the social evaluation of its effects as well as its history provide a practical and theoretical dimension highly demanded by both the public and the institutions.
- The study of the relationship between language and world, cognitive models and their applications to artificial intelligence as well as problems related to communication, speech acts and pragmatics, meaning, intentionality, and theories of mental representation .
These examples more than justify the convenience of maintaining the training of specialists capable of continuing to contribute reflection and innovation in fields as sensitive as those just described.
The European Higher Education Area demands a type of education that involves a conceptual reorganization of the education system to design models focused on the student's work and that require not only a calculation of the credits based on the student's work, but also methods and approaches different from those traditionally employed, that is, a more Anglo-Saxon approach to higher education. This requires a programming of the subjects taught in the master's degree that is based on the competences and skills that the student wishes to acquire, rather than on the mere transmission of content.
We wish that at the end of the cycle the student not only possesses passive knowledge of the subjects he has studied, but that he is capable of investigating, of being even original in the development and application of the acquired knowledge. His understanding of the Logic and Philosophy of Science should allow him to solve new problems and apply his teachings to non-habitual contexts, being able to make his own judgments, argue rationally, express his conclusions in appropriate language, write articles that can be reviewed and published in magazines both from our own centers and international. Entry and exit profile
The offer of official teaching leading to the official master's degree is designed in order to meet the demand of current university graduates who wish to receive additional specialization or research training, students from foreign university systems who wish to study for a master's degree In our country, and that of university graduates who decide to update their knowledge and skills or modify their profile. Our students are expected to:
- Graduates in Philosophy (graduates or graduates)
- Graduates in the area of natural sciences, mathematics and computer science (Graduates or graduates)
- Graduates in the area of social sciences and philology (Graduates or graduates).
It is necessary that the student can read philosophical and scientific texts correctly at least in Spanish and English.

- Identify the traditional and current knowledge that arise in the area of Logic and Philosophy of Science, as well as its different currents and traditions.
- Achieve a mastery of the analytical instruments of philosophy in a way that allows them to delineate the semantic, logical, epistemological, methodological, ontological, axiological and ethical factors present in science and technology.
- Understand the controversies, consider and relate the alternatives and judge which part is better justified or more reasonable.
- Identify arguments as they are presented in a text dialogue and debate evaluating their correctness, plausibility, conviction or acceptance.
Orientation and titorization
The potential student of this Master's Degree in Logic and Philosophy of Science will have, prior to the start of the course, sufficient academic information to plan their learning process: subject programs, tutorial schedules, calendar, etc. All this information is available on the master's website at the University of Salamanca, as well as on the website of the ULL.
The coordinators of this Master's Degree will personally deal with all the doubts that the potential students may have, providing them with the pertinent addresses of the different services of each of the participating universities to which they can go. This option is designed especially for students from other countries who usually contact the director by e-mail.
The first day of the beginning of the teaching of this Master's Degree, a welcome act will be held by its General Coordinator and members of the Academic Committee. At the event, in addition to a brief presentation of the activities of the Master, the presentation of the master's teaching platform and the space offered by the master's website to its students will be presented.
This master does not contemplate the performance of external practices.
- An original research work must be prepared on some topic related to the subject of the master's degree.
- It must include a state of the issue, an explanation of the problem treated, an argumented and justified development of the same, a section of conclusions and another one that contains duly cited the bibliographical references.
- The objectives of the work and the methodology used in terms of those objectives should be clearly stated.
- It is recommended that the Master Thesis can serve as a basis for the subsequent realization of a Doctoral Thesis project.
- The recommended extension is about 40 pages.

- Follow the Havard system for the formatting citations and rules on plagiarism.
- The student will submit a proposal to the Postgraduate Coordination Committee stating the title and tutor of his Master's Thesis on the date the Commission indicates.
- The Coordination Commission will approve said proposal or request the modifications that are deemed appropriate in relation to the title or the tutor.
- The student will present the report to the tutor within the deadline set (there must be room for the student to review the initial version once the tutor has read it). After its review, the tutor will decide whether or not to defend him publicly in the sessions established for that purpose.
- If the decision is favorable, the student must post the document in pdf on the task defined for that purpose and send electronic copies to the members of the court, at least 5 days before the date of reading.
- You must have completed and approved 45 credits of the master's degree; 5 of the compulsory subject "Methodology", 10 credits of the two compulsory of the chosen module, and 15 of the 3 electives chosen among those offered in the chosen module, and 3 electives of any module.
