Introduction

The Master's Degree in Architectural Rehabilitation Is an official cycle of studies of annual duration whose purpose is to offer advanced training in the areas of inspection and intervention in the built heritage.

The theme is of the greatest interest in the current socio-economic framework, which has resulted in a drastic reduction in the construction of new plant construction. The evidence suggests that this will be a sustained trend at least in the medium term, although partially offset by the increasing demand for technical inspection and conservation tasks, and the increase in works related to the renovation, rehabilitation and restoration of buildings, In line with the European alignments of Architecture of the last decades.

In all kinds of forums, the strategic importance of rehabilitation is recognized in terms of the necessary conservation of the heritage, but also because of its adaptation to the growing demands in areas such as accessibility, habitability, or energy efficiency. The professional competences needed in this scenario require a wide intensification of training, on the other hand according to the patterns of continuous learning and updating that societies require of their professionals.

As a result, this Master's Degree covers a wide range of topics related to the field of architectural rehabilitation, including both conceptual and strictly technical aspects. Under these considerations the program has been designed with a clear multidisciplinary approach, seeking to train specialist experts in a field that presumably will be deserving of a growing demand.

Why study the degree

Motivations of a professional nature: The Master in Architectural Rehabilitation offers advanced theoretical and practical training in the areas of the management of the built heritage, the technical inspection of the buildings, and their possible conservation and rehabilitation, according to a highly specialized multidisciplinary approach. It aims to train experts in the area, capable of facing the more than foreseeable restructuring of the sector and the strategic objectives outlined in Law 8/2013, of June 26, on urban rehabilitation, regeneration and renovation, according to the current European dynamics. In light of these considerations, the purpose of favoring higher levels of employability among students is evident.

Formative motivations: The program offers a remarkable intensification of content in its thematic area, developed by a faculty with a long experience teaching and professional. In addition, in the Master, competences are developed in the research field, constituting an effective way to start in the same.

Professional and academic outputs

The cycle of studies aims to facilitate multidisciplinary training directly linked to the following professional profiles:

  • Managers and technical staff in public or private entities, who need to achieve a high specialized qualification in matters concerning architectural rehabilitation.
  • Professionals wishing to train as experts in the inspection of buildings and / or architectural pathology.
  • Researchers in public or private institutions, whose thematic area is related to the field of architectural rehabilitation.
  • Consultancy activities related to the assessment, conservation and intervention in the built heritage, with special emphasis on the evaluation of performance and diagnosis of injuries and degradation processes.

It also contemplates a formative complement oriented to the possible access to the doctoral studies, in any case according to the requirements and processes defined in the current regulation in force.

Recommended profile

The suitability of the access profile in good logic depends on the affinity of the previous degree and the contents of the Master. That is why the design of it is oriented primarily to the participation of Architects, Technical Architects and Building Engineers; Although the possibility of access for other groups with a certain linkage is also contemplated: Road Engineering, Channels and Ports, Public Works and various Technical Engineering.
