Buildings with low energy use are a social and economic imperative for India and other tropical regions that will see the largest growth in the next two decades. Energy use largely determines the environmental footprint of a building over its lifespan. Research, policy, and practice are making building energy performance an area of intellectual and professional growth. Increasingly, a new kind of professional is needed in the building design or operations team to help save energy.
Within the M.Tech. program in Building Energy Performance students learn to:
- Use state of the art tools to conduct simulations and assess building energy performance.
- Tackle complex technical problems and participate in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Influence the design of energy-efficient buildings, while considering all building systems, architecture, and occupant health and comfort.

India and other tropical regions are experiencing an unprecedented economic growth and environmental concerns. Regulations, green building rating systems, and owners’ preferences have created a demand for building energy professionals. With a focus on warm climate, the graduates of this program are attractive candidates for job markets in India, South-east Asia, and the Middle-east, and for research careers in Europe and North America. They will work in energy consulting firms, building design teams, with building owners and government agencies, taking a leading role in pursuing energy efficiency with a whole-building perspective.
The Master of Technology in Building Energy Performance is a unique program that aims to fill the need for a new kind of professional who can influence the design, construction, and operation of buildings to ensure a low energy performance. The program uses the tropical climate as the context to prepare professionals who will tackle the challenges in the economies that are expected to grow in the next two decades. CEPT University’s focus on design and management of human habitat provides a supportive ecosystem and context for a building energy performance program. Research work done at Centre for Advanced Research in Building Science and Energy (CARBSE) at CEPT, its new net-zero-energy building, and the array of testing and metering equipment will be used in the learning environment. Up to 20 students with a background in architecture, engineering (mechanical, civil, electrical), M.Sc in physics, and Interior Design will form the cohort.
The coursework is designed to be very hands-on. During the first 3 semesters, the students will be required to take one 12-credit Lab course and one 3-credit Seminar Course. The Lab course will combine 3 type of modules: Core/Lectures for discussing Concepts and Practices, Simulation for Virtual Experimentation, and Measurements for Physical Experimentation. The seminar courses will handle topics that require less immersion.
Minimum Qualifications & Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for M. Tech. BEP program in the general category should have a minimum of 55% aggregate marks and those in the reserved categories should have a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Architecture/Construction Technology/Civil/Mechanical/Electrical/Environmental/BID (5 years program only) from a recognized university/institution.
Applicant must have cleared XII Examination in science stream with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.

Admission Process for the Program on Master of Technology (M.Tech.) in Building Energy Performance
The entire application process will be conducted online. Admission forms for M.Tech. BEP will be separate from other four M.Tech programs. This means that applicants aspiring for admission to this program will need to fill a separate admission form for M.Tech. BEP. The evaluation for admissions will be done as detailed below.
Stage 1 - Scrutiny for eligibility
All applications received will be scrutinized based on information provided in the application forms. Only those applicants who meet the eligibility criteria mentioned above will be considered for the subsequent stages.
Stage 2 - Evaluation based on application
Eligible applicants will be evaluated for the quality of their application with a focus on the statement of purpose and appropriateness of the academic and/or professional work as it related to the focus of the M.Tech. BEP program.

Stage 3 - Evaluation based on entrance exam
Eligible applicants will be called to appear for an entrance exam. The exams assess conceptual understanding of thermodynamics and heat transfer, understanding of Higher Secondary Certificate level algebra geometry, trigonometry, basic calculus and statistics, basic interpretation of building drawings and knowledge of current issues related to energy efficiency and environmental concerns. A merit list will be prepared at this stage and the first 35 applicants on the list will be evaluated in Stage 4.

Stage 4 - Evaluation based on personal interview
Applicants shortlisted in Stage 3 will be called to appear for a personal interview. During the interview, a panel of experts will assess the applicant's aptitude for the M.Tech. BEP program as follows:

Stage 5 – Preparation of merit list
A merit list will be prepared based on the total of marks from Stages 2, 3 and 4. The merit list will be displayed on CEPT University’s website. Applicants will be offered admission in M.Tech BEP program based on their rank on the merit list to fill the available seats. The admission committee at its discretion may decide to publish waitlists in the order of merit list.

Student Financial Aid
Please be informed that you can avail Pre Admission Scholarship (Means cum Merit) by filling up the scholarship form. Scholarships ranging from 25% to 75% of the annual tuition fee will be awarded to selected students from among the eligible applications.
Last date for submission of Scholarship is 20th April 2018
Eligibility for the Scholarship:
- Students with family income less than Rs. 10 lacs per annum are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
- Recipients of the scholarship will continue to receive the scholarship for the full duration of the program subject to maintaining a minimum 2.7 SGPA (an equivalent of B-) in every semester and completing all courses in the first attempt.
- University holds the right to reject the scholarship application, in case of absence of any required supporting documents to be submitted by the applicant.
- The award of the Scholarship will be announced along with your Admission Offer Letter, however, the amount will be disbursed after one month from the beginning of semester/lectures.
