Master of Technology in Building Energy Performance

Program Overview

Buildings with low energy use are a social and economic imperative for India and other tropical regions that will see the largest growth in the next two decades. Energy use largely determines the environmental footprint of a building over its life span. Research, policy and practice are making building energy performance an area of intellectual and professional growth. Increasingly, a new kind of professional is needed in the building design or operations team to help save energy.
M.Tech. Program in Building Energy Performance students learn to:

  • Use state of the art tools to conduct simulations and assess building energy performance.
  • Tackle complex technical problems and participate in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Contribute to and influence the design of energy-efficient buildings, while considering the architecture and environment, occupants’ behavior, their health and comfort.

India and other tropical regions are experiencing unprecedented economic growth and environmental concerns. Regulations, green building rating systems, and owners’ preferences have created a demand for building energy professionals. With a focus on warm climate, the graduates of this program are attractive candidates for job markets in India, South-east Asia and the Middle-east, and for research careers in Europe and North America. They will work in energy consulting firms, building design teams, with building owners and government agencies, taking a leading role for pursuing energy efficiency with a whole-building perspective.

Curriculum

CEPT University is recognized internationally for high quality research and practical experience in energy efficiency and net-zero energy buildings. The focus on design and management of human habitat provides a supportive eco-system for the building energy performance program. Teaching faculty comprises industry experts, experienced practitioners and researchers who have a solution oriented approach. There is a have a world-class research facility that houses the latest equipment for testing and measuring thermal and luminous effects in buildings.

Admission and Prerequisites

BEP program in the general category should have a minimum of 60% aggregate marks and those in the reserved categories should have a minimum of 55% aggregate marks in Bachelor’s/Master’s degree (or equivalent) from a recognized University/Institution. Candidates with a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering/ Mechanical Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Construction Technology / Architecture / Interior Design or Interior Architecture (five-year programs only) or Master of Science in Physics from a recognized university/institution will be eligible to apply to the program.

International Entry Requirements

CEPT’s guiding principal for International Admissions is to seek equivalence between International standards achieved and those of Indian home students. There are differences between Europe, America and India in degree length, academic standards and award structure.
