Master of Sport and Leisure Studies
The MSpLS is for Sport and Leisure Studies graduates who are interested in completing a research-based qualification.
Students will critically examine how political, cultural and economic factors influence the meaning and nature of sport, exercise and leisure and/or how psychological and physiological factors influence performance and movement in sport and exercise settings.
The programme engages a range of quantitative or qualitative methodologies and includes laboratory-based sport and exercise components, and where appropriate, includes working with athletes at the Avantidrome – Home of Cycling, or the new University of Waikato Adams Centre for High Performance. It enhances knowledge, skills and attributes relevant to many forms of employment within sport, exercise and leisure industries and beyond.
A New Zealand bachelors degree, either three or four years, with advanced study and a B (or better) average in the relevant subject areas or a qualification considered equivalent.
