The Cox Master of Science in Management (MSM) program is designed for high-potential employees who require basic business training to achieve their professional goals but for whom the traditional MBA is not the best fit. The program would be a good fit if you are:
- Pursuing a focused career in an industry like telecommunications, aerospace, and defense, or IT services, and you need to develop basic budgeting, management, financial, and strategic planning skills to assume a leadership position within your chosen discipline, or
- Working in another field, do not have an undergraduate degree in business, and need to be able to speak the basic language of business to advance your career.
The 10-month evening and weekend program accommodates the schedules of working professionals, enabling you to gain valuable business skills without leaving the workforce and immediately apply those skills to your job. Our core curriculum, outstanding business faculty, and unique services and resources make the Cox MSM the best value money can buy. In less than one year, you will gain a leg up on your peers and take significant strides toward achieving the position you've set your sights on.
Points of Differentiation
In the Cox MSM program, you will have the opportunity to learn from a renowned business faculty, polish your leadership and communication skills, develop a mentoring relationship with a seasoned executive, and establish professional contacts through our global alumni network.
RENOWNED BUSINESS FACULTY
The Cox School has attracted a unique group of professors distinguished by their innovative research, passion for teaching, and corporate consulting experience. The Cox faculty is ranked among the top 30 business schools in the world for research productivity in economics, finance, information systems, marketing, and strategy, according to a recent study by Academic Assessment Services (AAS). Only seven other U.S. business schools rank in the top 30 in all five categories. In addition to strong research, our faculty has consulted or worked for such companies as Lockheed Martin, Dow Corning, Xerox, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Texas Instruments, General Motors, EDS, Wal-Mart, and Brinker International.
BUSINESS LEADERSHIP CENTER
Employers say that when all other qualities and skills are equal, strong leadership and communications skills are what set certain candidates apart from their competition. In the Cox MSM program, you have access to specialized training in these areas through the Business Leadership Center (BLC). Established in 1992, the BLC today offers more than 60 seminars taught by business practitioners from Fortune 500 companies, medium-sized businesses, and entrepreneurial ventures. In addition to presenting traditional seminars on topics such as project management, leading in crisis and change, and strategic communications, the BLC offers individualized training in several areas, including advanced presentation techniques and advanced business writing.
EXECUTIVE MENTORING PROGRAM
The Associate Board, Cox's executive mentoring program, is one of the most valuable resources offered to Cox graduate students. Through this program, you can capitalize on the school's close ties with many of Dallas' leading companies and influential business leaders. You work with your mentor to decide how you want to structure the relationship, how often and where you want to meet, and what you hope to gain from the relationship. More than 220 executive mentors currently participate in the program, representing national and global corporations as well as entrepreneurial ventures in every major industry.
COX ALUMNI NETWORK
Consisting of more than 30,000 alumni around the world, the Cox Alumni Association network is one of the school's most valuable assets, which you can tap into to develop and sustain lifelong friendships and professional relationships. The Economist magazine recently ranked Cox #7 in the world for the breadth of the alumni network and #1 among U.S. business schools.
A Solid Business Foundation
The MSM curriculum is designed to give you a fundamental understanding of business, along with the budgeting, management, marketing, financial, and strategic planning tools you need to distinguish yourself from your peers. The program lasts 10 months and comprises 30 credit hours of coursework. Over five modules, you will complete 15 courses. Each course earns two credit hours over eight weeks, with each class meeting one evening a week or on Saturday morning for approximately three hours. All MSM students complete the following sequence of courses together.
