Program Description

Applicants to the Masters Programme in Energy Engineering must hold a Bachelors degree in Energy Engineering (or equivalent degree), the fundamentals of engineering (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), specific knowledge of technology related to energy production and distribution and use a good understanding of related environmental and safety issues.

Objectives

The Masters Programme in Energy Engineering trains engineers in the design, development and control of complex energy systems with special attention to their economic feasibility. The programme addresses multi- and inter-disciplinary subjects to provide students with the flexibility required by the labour market. The programme allows students to select subjects from a wide range of modules, including:

  • Energy Technology: plants and management
  • Renewable Energy: technology and plants
  • Nuclear Energy: technology and plants

The programme addresses the electrical issues that are related to energy conversion, distribution and storage, and management, design, safety and control issues relevant to energy systems, for renewable energy technology, including wind turbines, solar panels, fuel cells, marine turbines, biomasses and geothermal energy systems. Moreover, students will also study energy system integration, especially in relation to energy efficiency and distribution in urban areas and in the concept of smart cities.

Specific modules concern nuclear energy systems. The fundamentals of atomic and nuclear physics are studies, as well as technological solutions for reactors, nuclear plants and new generation configurations. Special attention is paid to issues related to risk assessment and control, safety procedures and management of waste material.

Degree Structure

The Masters in Energy Engineering Programme is based on 120 ECTS credits over two years (1 CFU is equivalent to 1 ECTS credit).

The credits are divided as follows:

  • 81 ECTS - basic training modules
  • 12 ECTS - elective training modules
  • 6 ECTS - stage and laboratories
  • 21 ECTS - final project

The Masters in Energy Engineering Programme has established several student exchange programmes with top universities and research centres abroad.
