Introduction
The Master of Science in Education in Teacher Leadership provides a post-baccalaureate opportunity for licensed teachers who seek to expand content, pedagogical knowledge, and leadership role. The degree consists of 30-36 hours which provides a pathway to the instructional facilitator license and the LEAD teacher designation. By completing 18 hours of graduate content knowledge coursework for a particular content area, graduates will be able to teach concurrent credit and adjunct at area colleges and universities.
This program will prepare experienced teachers to assume leadership roles such as resource providers, instructional specialists, curriculum specialists, classroom supporters, learning facilitators, mentors, school team leaders, and data coaches. Candidates will gain the skills and knowledge to demonstrate proficiency with the Arkansas Teacher Leader Model Standards through real-world application in K-12 settings. This program requires a current teaching license.
Feedback from school district partners served as a basis for the program design as did the Arkansas Teacher Leader Standards. Program advisory groups consisting of district leadership described the need for teachers licensed as LEAD teachers.
