Program Description

Graduates of the special education master’s degree program in Buffalo will understand and be prepared to focus on the unique academic, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of students receiving special education services.

Medaille’s 16-month master’s in education for students with disabilities is designed for individuals who currently hold, or are working toward, initial New York State certification in students with disabilities. Graduates will understand and be prepared to focus on the unique academic, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of students receiving special education services.

Clinical Experiences

Provides students the opportunity to learn through hands-on experience with the support and mentorship of classroom teachers and college instructors.

Fieldwork

All students enrolled in the M.S.Ed. Students with Disabilities program are required to complete a minimum of 100 field experience hours prior to student teaching. These field experience hours are embedded over two courses and must be completed prior to the final semester of the program.

Practicum and Student Teaching: 

Students in an SWD program with initial certification are required to complete two practicum courses.

Students in an SWD program without initial certification (have not completed a B.S.Ed. degree) are required to complete one practicum and one eight-week student teaching placement.
