Master's Degree Program with Employability Focus

As data accumulates across broad sectors of industry and academia we see a need for data scientists equipped with skills to assist with data-based decision making. For example, businesses are using data to determine insurance coverage, to make marketing decisions, to offer recommendations to customers, and to provide more effective health care. A famous example from academia is the determination of the Higgs Boson from simulated data with machine learning methods.

Master of Science in Computer Science with Specialization in Data Science program covers basic and advanced essentials in statistical inference, machine learning, data visualization, data mining, and big data methods, all of which are key for a trained data scientist. In order to be selected for our program, we require a basic background in calculus, linear algebra, probability, computer programming, data structures, and algorithms. Our program is spread across 30 credits and contains projects involving big datasets, classification methods, variable selection, and deep learning to name a few.

Students will be taking 10 courses over a period of 1 year. Apart from core courses, Contech offers noncredit Personal Development & Employability courses to boost your hiring progress even before graduation.

You will be actively participating in Practicum Programs where you will have a chance to use your skills working on challenging problems with actual data shared from sponsoring organizations. The Practicum spans seven months and culminates with an executive-level report and presentation to the employer organization.

Contech Nomad Students take advantage of living and learning in four different world cities, San Francisco, New York, Berlin & Singapore (as a bonus, Bali vacation). Every 3 months, Nomad Students travel to the next location with their classmates, stay together, meet with local tech communities and of course, engage with local employers.

Contech Nomad Students benefit from:

  • Experiencing different cultures
  • Meeting local employers
  • Creating a lifelong bond with your classmates
  • Adapting nomad lifestyle

Online + Choose Your City

A data scientist is the pinnacle rank in an analytics organization. Glassdoor has ranked data scientists first in the 25 Best Jobs for 2016, and good data scientists are scarce and in great demand. As a data scientist, you will be required to understand the business problem, design the analysis, collect and format the required data, apply algorithms or techniques using the correct tools, and finally make recommendations backed by data.

Without the expertise of professionals who turn cutting-edge technology into actionable insights, Big Data is nothing. Today, more and more organizations are opening up their doors to big data and unlocking its power—increasing the value of a data scientist who knows how to tease actionable insights out of gigabytes of data.

After completing the master’s degree, students will be able to:

  • Identify the different phases required for the preparation of a good visualization: data collection, processing, and representation.
  • Design a data collection method that manages to map an activity, task or process into concrete data.
  • Use existing techniques and tools for data mining, statistics and information visualization.
  • Design and develop interactive, usable and eloquent visualizations.
  • Design and develop a system to support decision making, contemplating the complete process: data collection, processing, and visualization.

Graduates will have a job position as

  • Business Intelligence Manager
  • Senior analyst
  • BI Consultant
  • Big Data Analyst
  • Business Intelligence Technician
  • Senior BI Consultant
  • Big Data Project Manager
Program taught in:
  • English
