Program Description

Master of Science in Data Science for Public Policy (MS-DSPP)

Georgetown University - McCourt School of Public Policy

An advanced degree for recent college graduates and professionals who are interested in developing technical data skills for public sector work.

From our smartphones and our credit cards; to our tweets and our cars - data are everywhere and in everything. Even in power lines, airports and the roads we drive on, data exist in places that we wouldn’t even think of.

The smart and intentional application of these data could allow us to make better public policy decisions, find patterns, and more effectively deliver critical services like healthcare, education and national security. In governments around the world and in the nonprofit and private sectors, the demand for data analysts, scientists, and data-savvy managers is increasing quickly.

The Master of Science in Data Science for Public Policy (MS-DSPP) is a joint degree offered by Georgetown’s McCourt School of Public Policy and Georgetown’s Graduate Analytics program combining the historic strengths of McCourt’s public policy analysis curriculum with the cutting-edge computational, mathematical, statistical methods training of Georgetown’s Analytics program. This innovative, blended curriculum allows graduates to be highly valuable across sectors in the US and around the globe.

  • The MS-DSPP provides a unique curriculum at the intersection of data science and quantitative public policy analysis, equipping graduates with cutting-edge computational, analytical, and leadership skills.
  • The MS-DSPP is an advanced degree for college graduates and professionals with some background in statistics, economics, mathematics, or computer science who are interested in developing technical data skills for public sector workers.
  • The MS-DSPP is a full-time, 14-course degree program. The curriculum is divided into core and elective courses and can be completed in two years.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The MS-DSPP program combines the historic strengths of the McCourt School’s public policy analysis curriculum with the cutting-edge computational, mathematical, statistical methods training of the Georgetown Graduate Analytics program.

The program trains students to apply data science methods to public policy questions– like economics and job creation, health and healthcare, and education– in new and innovative ways.
