Program Description

Master of Science in Chemical Engineering

Chemical Engineering Department gives degrees at B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels. The undergraduate and MSc programs which started in 1998 were followed by the Ph.D. program in 2001. The priority of the department is to create a stimulating research and education environment for its students and faculty. The student/faculty ratio is intentionally held at a minimum to provide each student with an excellent education while allowing the department to monitor the progress of the students individually. The language of teaching is in English as for all programs in IZTECH. The undergraduate curriculum is based on courses in Basic Sciences and in various Engineering Disciplines related to the goals of the program. During their education, students can take elective courses in four interdisciplinary areas, namely biotechnology, energy, environment, and materials science.

The Department hosts 17 full-time faculty members with Ph.D.s from prestigious universities in the world. The faculty members are considered experts in their selected fields which include: advanced materials, biochemistry and bioprocess engineering, biotechnology, catalysts, process control, separation and purification, surface treatments, energy (conventional and renewable) and environment. Such profile creates extensive research opportunities for students at graduate level. The Department of Chemical Engineering is able to pursue the latest scientific developments and is ready to contribute to new areas of research.

The Masters and Ph.D. programs in Chemical Engineering receive a special attention since graduate work constitutes the foundation of IZTECH. While the faculty members are encouraged to focus on understanding the basic physical, chemical and biological principles in their related research fields, they carry on research in order to advance existing technologies and to contribute to the development of new engineering fields. The Department works hand-in-hand with other departments since interdisciplinary work is considered premium in IZTECHand supported by interdisciplinary programs. With such goals and means, IZTECH Chemical Engineering Department is aiming to become one of the leading programs in Turkey.
