The International Management (IM) track is one of the seven tracks within the Master in Business Administration. You will become familiar with key theories and principles and be exposed to real challenges faced by multinational companies. To this end, several courses adopt a case study approach to facilitate your active engagement with real-world international management scenarios. This allows you to combine foundational courses in IM with your personal selection of Business Lab courses.
Become a specialist in International Management
The relevance of multinational companies and the interconnectedness between countries have dramatically increased in recent years. At the same time, countries continue to differ along a wide range of dimensions and multinationals are faced with continuous challenges in the pursuit of their international operations across the world. How do multinationals respond to Brexit? How does the introduction of trade tariffs affect firms’ international strategies? How can political issues influence multinationals’ activities in a given country? These are only a few of the key questions that arise when examining the international business landscape. The IM track is designed to provide you with a solid foundation in the theory and practice of international management that will allow you to give a rigorous and relevant answer to such questions.
Customise your study programme
In addition to the foundational courses in IM, you may choose from a wide range of elective Business Lab courses such as Online Marketing, Branding, Leadership, Strategy Consulting and Entrepreneurship. This will give you the opportunity to tailor the programme precisely to your own preferences and skills. In these Business Labs companies like Unilever, L'Oreal or Philips will present a real-life case. Together with your group, you will have only 6 weeks to think of a good business solution and present it to the company. This is just one of the many opportunities we will provide to you to meet with the business world and prepare yourself for your future career.
One Master's programme, seven tracks
The Master's in Business Administration allows you to choose a top-level academic specialisation track in one of seven disciplines.
In addition to a preferred track, you may choose from a wide range of elective courses, like Branding, Leadership, Management Consulting or Sustainability. This gives you the opportunity to tailor the programme precisely to your own personal preferences and skills.
Examples from the classroom
What distinguishes successful MNEs from failures. Why are some firms better at negotiating the complexities of the international landscape – adapting to cross-border differences in politics and culture, and even taking advantage of such differences – while others underestimate these obstacles or fail to negotiate them effectively? You will identify the strategies and tools that managers can use to gain success in foreign markets, often against the odds.
You will kick off your studies with ‘UvA in Carré’, a series of inspirational seminars featuring prominent speakers from leading companies such as Ahold Delhaize, Unilever, Vodafone Ziggo, Google and l'Oréal. IM alumni hold positions in MNEs such as Trade Marketeer, Management Trainee, Consulting Enterprise Architect, Technology Consultant, Digital Marketing specialist and Franchise coordinator.
After successful completion of this programme, you will receive a legally accredited Master’s degree in Business Administration and the title Master of Science (MSc).
