Program Description

Master of Science in Agricultural Education

Texas Tech University at Collin

Master of Science in Agricultural Education

Educators, employees of state and federal agencies, extension agents, and employees of private businesses: Texas Tech University's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources offers an online Master of Science in Agricultural Education designed to provide you with the skills necessary to advance into a leadership position.

The Master of Science in Agricultural Education is designed to prepare graduates for teaching, research, extension, leadership, and administrative positions in the public and private sectors. The program is similar to the on-campus Master's of Agricultural Education degree. Students in the Master's program focus on a core of agricultural education courses along with an emphasis in designing educational/training programs, professional presentation enhancement, leadership development, teaching/training methods, and interpersonal communication.

The Master of Science in Agricultural Education requires a minimum of 36 semester hours of graduate coursework and has a thesis or non-thesis option (see the detailed curriculum). The non-thesis option requires the student to complete 6 additional credit hours and successfully complete an examination of their completed coursework at the end of the degree program. This degree specialization also allows students to complete the requirements for teacher certification while completing their Master's degree program (if needed).

Program Overview

  • 36 credit hour minimum, a thesis option is available
  • Most coursework is completed online. Some courses and class meetings are delivered through Interactive Video Conferencing (IVC).
  • Prerequisite: bachelor's degree
  • Students are not required to enroll in a certain number of courses each semester, so completion time varies by individual.
  • Semester-based courses align with the Academic Calendar of Texas Tech University. New students may enroll at the beginning of any one of the four semesters throughout the year.

Application Process

Although there is no application deadline, prospective students are encouraged to submit all application materials at least three months prior to projected initial enrollment.

1. Apply to Texas Tech University's Graduate School.

  • Complete the Graduate Admissions Application.
    • $60 initial application fee or $50 for each subsequent application (including changes of entry date, add/change program requests, or readmission requests).
    • Students planning to pursue a master's degree must submit Graduate Records Exam (GRE) scores to the Graduate School. Scores must be less than five years old at the time of application.
    • International students must also submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language score to the Graduate School. Scores must be less than two years old at the time of application.

2. Complete the Departmental Application.

  • Each applicant must complete the Department's application form and submit a brief letter explaining his or her interest in the graduate degree, a current resume, and three letters of references from individuals outside the Department. This information can be emailed directly to the Program Coordinator

3. Apply for financial aid and/or scholarships.

  • Financial aid is distributed based on full-time enrollment and several other eligibility requirements. Your enrolled hours as of the 12th day of class in the fall and spring semesters determines your enrollment status for the semester, and financial aid is disbursed accordingly. Attending less than full-time could mean a reduction in aid.

4. Upon acceptance to the Graduate School and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, you will work with a Graduate Advisory Committee composed of three members to develop a degree plan.

  • Texas Tech University will notify you of your admissions status by updating the Applications tab in your Raiderlink.
