What to expect from us
You will be supervised by your main professor, our personal career coach, and a research coach. As a Master of Music student at Fontys, you receive a two-year personal budget. The personal budget amount depends on your specialization. In the academic year 2017-2018 the personal budget ranged from €3000 to €4000 per year for students in their first and second year of study. You can use your personal budget to personalize the curriculum in accordance with your artistic and professional needs. Students who wish to take lessons with artists who teach outside Fontys may use their scholarship to do so, even when the artist is based in another country. The school maintains strong connections with local concert halls and venues. Therefore, as a student, you will have ample performance opportunities in the region.
What do we expect from you
Before the entrance exam, it is important to think about your career goals. In your personal development plan, you outline your professional goals for the upcoming years of study. This plan supports your personal qualities and interests and sketches where you see yourself as a professional in two years. Your plan will be evaluated by the exam commission and is part of the application procedure.
As a student, you receive a two-year personal budget that you can use to design your own curriculum. The personal budget amount depends on your specialization. In the academic year 2016-2017 the personal budget ranges from €3000 to €4000 per year for students in their first and second year of study.
Your personal budget may be used for taking lessons with professors at Fontys as well as with external professors and artists. This allows you to take lessons with multiple inspiring artists who are leaders in their field and can help you take the next step in your career.
If you wish you take lessons with an artist who teaches elsewhere you can use your budget to do so, even when the artist is based in another country. A cellist, for instance, can choose to have lessons with a cello professor in Paris as part of the Master’s programme, by using her personal budget. Similarly, a musical theater vocalist can follow lessons with a teacher based in London.
A minimum of 30% of the personal budget should be used for lessons at Fontys, while up to 70% of the budget may be used outside the school.
As a student, you can choose one of two graduation profiles:
• Performance with focus on education
The Performance profile emphasizes performance during your career as a Master’s student. When you choose the profile Performance with focus on education, you will follow a lecture series on education. In addition, your research project will be education-oriented. As the majority of students usually opt for the Performance profile, the education programme is only offered when at least five students apply for this profile.
