Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA)
Landscape Architecture plays a pivotal role in a country like India that is fast changing in its physical form. The present-day Landscape Professional is trained to be ecologically sensitive and protector of natural resources and works at varying scales, complexities, and typologies. These include projects in regional landscapes, housing, institutional, recreational, urban, heritage, infrastructure, and industrial & household spaces. A Landscape Architecture/Design Professional needs to develop a critical understanding of the scope of the profession and evolve a value system and a keen sense of inquiry.
This program at CEPT University is highly recognized and provides the opportunity for young professionals to upgrade their capacities and credentials. It also provides an opportunity for wider exposure to architecture, planning, construction, design and management of human habitats. The Master of Landscape Architecture provides professional education for the development of landscape architecture in densely built environments and master plans through intense design education supported with strong engineering foundation. This is a two-year program where students will acquire the skills to practice landscape professionally through design and technical development aid to the construction of design.
The Curriculum includes lecture courses, in theory, technical subjects, and studios according to the objectives of the program. Design studios focus on the development of students’ critical abilities with an aim not only confined to deriving suitable designs in response to a brief but also with a greater emphasis on the design process and research. Graduates from these programs are presently working for leading landscape architecture and design firms in India and abroad, while many have chosen to establish their own practices. A section of the graduating students also chooses to join large development / real estate firms. Some graduates of the program pursue teaching and research as a career path. Overall, there are vast opportunities for developing a successful career of one’s choice after graduating from these programs.
To enable students to pursue individual interests, only three quarters of the total academic workload is mandated. Students choose courses from the many available electives to complete the rest. Teachers are drawn from practicing professionals who bring practical experience to the classroom and academics and complement teaching with more theoretical and critical approaches.
Admission and Prerequisites
Admission to the program is based on academic history during undergraduate studies, portfolio, work experience and in-person / teleconference interview. The applications will be scrutinized in a two-stage evaluation process.
Minimum Qualification to apply for this program includes a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture (B. Arch) or equivalent recognized by the Council of Architecture (COA) with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks for General category candidates and 50% aggregate marks for reserved category candidates. Two years’ professional work experience is desirable.

CEPT’s guiding principle for International Admissions is to seek equivalence between International standards achieved and those of Indian home students. There are differences between Europe, America and India in degree length, academic standards and award structure. CEPT will, therefore, consider each International application on its merits seeking international equivalence and bearing in mind any professional requirements that these Programs have.
