Master's Degree

Graduates from the Master of International Business in Hotel Management / Master of Arts in International Hotel Business Management program and the required internship will be able to accelerate their business acumen by applying their newly acquired skills managing the highly growing business of hotel operations. The Master of Arts awarded in collaboration with Swiss Hotel Management School's academic partner, University of Derby, U.K.

Their study journey will take them through learning the theory and applying the practical domain of the essential building blocks within the world of hotel management. From Food & Beverage, Front Office and Rooms Division to Events & Banqueting, the multifaceted nature of the hospitality industry is covered.

The capstone module directs students to draw on all their areas of study throughout the program, as they bring together their newly acquired skills and competencies when they present their final applied management project for launching their own hotel.

Entry Requirements

  • Recognized Bachelor's Degree
  • English language proficiency of IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 80 or equivalent

For students who require a visa to enter Switzerland, it is important that you contact the Swiss Embassy in your home country to find out the length of time necessary for your visa application. In certain countries, it may take up to 12 weeks for a visa to be approved.

Application Procedure

Step 1: Application Form

Please complete the application form and send it with the following documents:

  • High-school/university certificates/transcripts
  • Proof of English proficiency (TOEFL or IELTS or OOPT or equivalent)
  • Completed Statement of Health document
  • Copy of passport
  • Four passport-size photographs (3x4 cm – required upon arrival in Switzerland)
  • Curriculum vitae (résumé)
  • Motivation letter
  • Work reference letters (if available)

Applicants may take the Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT) free of charge. Please contact the admissions office to find out your nearest test center. Students who do not have the required English level will be advised to join the English Foundation Programme.

Copies of official documents are accepted however original documents may be requested. Missing documents will be noted on the provisional letter of acceptance. Information about any missing documents should be given to the admissions office at the time of application.

If you are in contact with a local representative, he or she will be able to help with this process.

N.B.:

All documents must be translated into English and stamped by an official translator.

Step 2: Provisional Acceptance

The admissions office considers potential students’ full profile including academic records, personal motivation, work experience (if any), extracurricular activities and any letters of recommendation.

If the application is successful and the requested course is still available, the provisional letter of acceptance will be sent within one week. The confirmation fee must be paid within 30 days:

  • Confirmation fee: CHF 3,000.–
  • Cancellation insurance: CHF 290.– per term (please refer to the general conditions for details)

Full bank details will be indicated in the provisional letter of acceptance. If the letter is received six weeks or less before the starting date, full fees should be transferred immediately.

If the confirmation fee is not paid on time, the place in the course is not guaranteed. If the above payment cannot be made by the deadline set, please contact the admissions office to request an extension.

The paid confirmation fee will be applied to the first term fees.

N.B.:

Any special room requests (single, premium, deluxe or superior deluxe) can only be confirmed once full payment is received.

Step 3: Acceptance and Visa

The confirmation letter will be issued upon receipt of the payment of the confirmation fee. This letter and the receipt of the confirmation fee payment are necessary to apply for the student visa (if required).

The balance of the school fees must reach the school’s account no later than six weeks before arrival.

Once a place is confirmed, students will receive detailed information for arrival at the school. For any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact the admissions office.

N.B.:

The school reserves the right to modify the application procedures when necessary. Applicants will be notified immediately should any changes take place.

Visa Application

In most countries, students have to submit a student visa application at the nearest Swiss Embassy or Consulate. The visa can take up to 12 weeks to process. The local representative (if applicable) will also have full details of the visa application procedures.

Students will need the letter of acceptance and the receipt of the confirmation fee payment to apply for their visa.

Neither the school nor its representatives have any jurisdiction over decisions concerning visa applications. All decisions are made by the relevant Swiss authorities.

Visa Collection

At the earliest students can collect their visa 10 days before the start of the course.

Advance Payment

Swiss authorities require advance payment of the tuition fees (one or two terms) in some countries in order to process a visa. Contact the admissions office for more information.

Exceptions

Nationals of most European Union member states do not require a student visa to enter Switzerland.
