Master of Engineering in Computational Mechanics
This Master is internationally recognized and accredited by the French Ministry of Higher Education. The quality of its courses has been recognized in the prestigious Erasmus Mundus framework of the European Commission
Language of teaching
Courses fully taught in English during the two years.
The course covers the modelling of complex mechanical systems involving a possible coupling of different physics at different scales.
In more general terms, the course provides solid training in advanced techniques in scientific computing at the interface between scientific disciplines for the modelling of engineering problems.
This Master "Computational Mechanics" relies on the staff members and on the scientific and research facilities of the GeM "Institut de Recherche en Génie Civil et Mécanique".
The individual classes adopt a global approach towards the issue associated with numerical modelling, from the construction of models and their discretization to the numerical resolution of discrete models, and to the mathematical analysis of models and approximation methods.
The classes are closely related to current scientific issues and herness the expertise of a teaching team in direct contact with industry
- Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Science or Equivalent. (Students in their final year of undergraduate study may be admitted on the condition that their bachelor's degrees are awarded before they enroll at Centrale Nantes.)
- Applicants whose native language is not English are required to pass a recognized international English test such as TOEFL (score 220 CBT, 550 PBT, 80 IBT), Cambridge Advanced English Test (score B or higher), IELTS (score 6.5 or higher), TOEIC (800) or other English equivalent test.
An applicant who carried out his study in English is eligible, passing a recognized test provides him more chance to be accepted (official confirmation letter is needed). The English test result must be sent before the deadline of application.

The call for applications to the Erasmus Mundus Master of Science in Computational Mechanics is now open ! 1/ What is the Master of Science in Computational Mechanics ? The Master of Science in Computational Mechanics has been designed and accepted in the framework of the very selective European Union programme of Excellence Erasmus Mundus. The aim of the course is to provide an outstanding higher education course in computational mechanics with applications in solids, fluids and interdisciplinery fields, taught by the best academic specialists and industrial experts. The programme includes a component of entrepreneurship and innovation
2/ Who are the partners ?
The Master of Science in Computational Mechanics is an integrated Master course conducted by: Universitata Politecnica de Catalunya - UPC (Spain) coordinator, Ecole Centrale de Nantes (France), Swansea University (UK), Universitat Stuttgart (Germany) and Tsinghua university (China)
Students will obtain two master degrees from the Top European institutions where they studied. Students may take the master as a professional terminal degree, or join PhD programmes afterwards.
Today, more than 200 alumni are now part of the Master of Science in Computational Mechanics alumni network and have successful careers all over the world, in academia, innovation or industry. The consortium and its industrial network play an important role in the design of the curricula, the teaching of the cutting edge R&D that guarantee and enhance the employability of the students after graduation compared to a regular master degree.
4/ Tuition fees
European Union students : €8,000 for the 2-year-master course Non-European Union students : €16,000 for the 2-year-master course
