The Teaching Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and Exceptional Learners (TCLDEL) program prepares educators for careers in diverse classrooms around the world. Students enrolled in the Mason Korea program will receive a Master’s in Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in TCLDEL. Teachers can select a specialization in International English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Education, or Advanced International Baccalaureate (IB) Studies.

Applications for this program are now being accepted. The program will start SUMMER 2018, but you must complete a “Fall 2018 Graduate Studies” application. Please look for the Mason Songdo option under Campus in the Fall 2018 application. Your application will be reviewed immediately and you will start summer 2018.

  • Teachers can engage in “hands-on” learning as they try new strategies, adopt new practices, and critically reflect on their teaching experiences while studying online with expert faculty.

The TCLDEL program combines coursework across multiple disciplines and provides a path for new and experienced teachers to specialize in their area of interest. Mason Korea TCLDEL students complete a core sequence of coursework together, then specialize in one of 2 areas: International ESOL Education (PK-12) or Advanced International Baccalaureate Studies.

International ESOL Education (PK-12)

Be prepared to be a teacher of English or to enhance your instruction with English Language Learners! In addition to a Master’s in Education, students will receive an International ESOL Education (PreK-12) Graduate Certificate with the option to earn an ESOL PK-12 Virginia State Teaching License.

Advanced International Baccalaureate Studies (K-12)

Be prepared to be an inquiry-oriented teacher qualified to teach in an International Baccalaureate curriculum or school! George Mason University is an authorized IB provider of the graduate. This program prepares teachers to earn the IB certificate in teaching and learning.

Intensive Summer Sessions & Online Coursework

With this innovative, flexible design, Mason Korea TCLDEL students can study face-to-face in the summer and complete their degrees online from anywhere in the world!

  • Students take courses face-to-face from mid-July to mid-August in 2-3 summer sessions (one course each session) on Mason Korea’s Songdo campus. Each face-to-face course runs Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM to 3:20 PM for eight (8) days.
  • Students take online coursework in the fall & spring semesters.
  • Students have an opportunity to apply coursework in K-12 settings during the fall and spring.
