Master of Education, Licensure in Elementary School Counseling

The Master of Education in Elementary School Counseling - Licensure Program is designed to develop the competencies necessary for an individual to function as a counselor in an elementary school setting. The program is structured to enable students to develop personal awareness of self as a counselor, knowledge of counseling and educational concepts, and skills in counseling elementary school students. Included in this program is an emphasis on developing assessment and research skills and using research findings in school counseling.

This program consists of 60 semester hours. Upon successful program completion and qualifying scores on the PRAXIS examination, specialist certification as an Elementary School Counselor is granted through the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

Upon program completion, students will also have met the academic requirements of 60 credits for the Pennsylvania Licensed Professional Counselor Examination. This particular license is not mandatory for practice as a Professional School Counselor but may be required in a clinic, agency, hospital, or another counseling setting.
