Master of Education (Teaching of English as a Second Language) is ideal for those who want to gain specialized knowledge in teaching English to others, where English is not their mother tongue. Through the modules offered, students will develop a deeper understanding of the core principles of teaching and learning the English Language.
An option to earn a PGDE teaching qualification upon successful graduate (MEd)
Program Entry Requirements
You must meet the following requirements in order to be considered for entry to the UNITAR Master's Program:
Bachelor's Degree Education (Hons) / Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) in Education with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 from an institution recognized by the Malaysian Government; OR
Bachelor's Degree (Hons) AND Diploma in Education/ Certificate in Education/ Diploma in Teaching from an institution recognized by the Malaysian Government; OR
Bachelor's Degree Education from an institution recognized by the Malaysian government and must have 1-year working experience in the related field; OR
Bachelor's Degree/ Diploma in Education/ Certificate in Education/Diploma in Teaching from an institution recognized by the Malaysian government and must have 1-year working experience in the related field; OR
Bachelor's Degree (Hons) with CGPA less than 2.50, can be accepted subject to five (5) year working experience in the related field;
Applicants into the Master’s program (level 7, MQF) through APEL, must be a Malaysian citizen aged more than 30 years of age in the year of application with relevant work experience/ prior experiential learning and passed APEL assessment.
The English Language Entry Requirement for Malaysian students at UNITAR International University are as follows:
For M.Ed TESL:
A minimum of credit in English at SPM level, or,
A minimum score of Band 3 in Malaysian University English Test (MUET), or,
Pass an internal assessment set by the University, with a minimum score of C.
Internal Assessment: An oral test in the form of an interview which will be conducted by a panel of interviewers consisting of two members from each Faculty and a representative from the English Language department or any other related department.
