Located in the thriving entrepreneurial city of Shenzhen, China, and immediately adjacent to the financial hub of Hong Kong, Peking University HSBC Business school (PHBS) brings Peking University’s historical presence to the country’s south and lies at the very heart of one of the world's most promising and dynamic metropolitan areas. Few other regions in China offer a more suitable setting for an institution destined to become this country's foremost graduate business school.
Accredited by EFMD for EPAS and by AACSB, PHBS has rapidly grown in reputation and as a centre of international excellence in Business education.
PHBS Master of Economics is a two year and full-time programme, culminating in a final thesis, which focuses on a core curriculum in economic theory and applications, and in which international students learn alongside Chinese peers in an environment of cross-cultural dialogue.
The academic year consists of two semesters, with two modules each. Each module runs for nine weeks. In addition, the faculty members have earned their PhD degrees from top-ranked universities over the world, and all courses are instructed exclusively in English.
This programme provides specialised training in economics, modern theories, application, and methodologies. The PHBS Master of Economics has been granted EPAS accreditation by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). The curriculum is very quantitative-based and requires students to have a very high level of mathematical skills. Courses include Advanced Macroeconomics, Advanced Microeconomics, Applied Econometrics, General and Business Chinese, as well as elective courses.
It aims to equip students with a solid theoretical foundation in economics, teaching them to carry out research and analysis independently, and instructing them on the most pressing economic issues of today. The programme prepares students for a career as an economist in business, public sector, financial institutions, central banks, national and international organisations, as well as academic research.
