Introduction
In the Athletic Training program, students learn to manage the overall health care of scholastic, professional, and recreational athletes. At UNK, you'll learn in fully equipped facilities from faculty with real experience in the athletic training field. Students have opportunities to gain practical experience through avenues like research activities and clinical experiences.
The Master of Athletic Training program at the University of Nebraska at Kearney offers two separate avenues for entry through one graduate professional program. Students will have the opportunity to either complete a 3-year undergraduate plus a 2-year professional (3+2) program pathway or complete a traditional post-baccalaureate 2-year professional program pathway.
Students applying for the traditional two-year post-baccalaureate pathway will be required to obtain pre-requisites for application to the program. Upon acceptance into the traditional two-year model, students will be afforded the opportunity to complete the professional program over the following two calendar years.
Curriculum
Students who are enrolled in the Master of Athletic Training will complete 2 years of academic and clinical education at UNK. Academic course work includes courses such as orthopedic evaluation and assessment, pathology and treatment of medical conditions, therapeutic interventions, and professional development. Upon completion of the academic curriculum and clinical experience, the student is eligible to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) Examination.
