The program is notable for its 50/50 blend of production and theory courses within six Areas of Concentration:
- Audio Production: Music, Radio, Sound for Picture
- Computer Graphics: Animation, Web Design, Social Media
- Film/Video Production: Directing, Editing, Performance
- Media Management: Producing, Marketing (TV/Film, Social Media, Music)
- Photography: Digital, Fine Art, Experimental
- Screenwriting: TV, Film, Animation
This integrated approach to media arts equips students and professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge to develop and evolve in the face of shifting and convergent technologies.
Students have access to extensive media facilities such as: multiplatform and networked computer labs with production-grade workstations for CG and animation; a multi-cam TV studio; digital video labs and editing bays; digital audio and MIDI labs with a full recording studio; wet and digital photo labs; large format printers; cameras and assorted media peripherals, large theatrical screening spaces; 3 campus-based galleries for exhibitions; and smart classrooms.
The culmination of the program is an integrated thesis project that comprises both of a thesis paper and an exhibit-ready media production.
All undergraduate and graduate programs at the LIU Brooklyn are registered with the New York State Education Department and accredited by the Commission of Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. In addition, various academic programs in the Richard L. Conolly College of Liberal Arts and Science are accredited by professional organizations, signifying they meet the highest standards of educational quality as determined by leaders in the field.
