Welcome to the FIBAA Accredited Programmes offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden.
We are highly committed to being an educational institution of excellence in the fields of business and economics. Located in a small town almost in the geographical centre of Germany, we offer to study in an international group of students with the vast majority coming from different countries all around the world.

This programme reflects our idea to provide our most valued assets - our students - with a truly international approach in a unique programme and to prepare them for a successful professional career in business or for their subsequent research.

The Master of Arts in International Business and Economics will start in October and is a two-year research-based quality programme with a strong international focus.

Admission Requirements

  • Outstanding academic degree in Business, Management, Economics or related disciplines (Bachelor, Diploma or equivalent degree). You should belong to the best 25% of graduates of your degree program. A confirmational letter from your university would be helpful for us to assess this qualification.
  • Proof of English language ability for non-native speakers: TOEFL minimum score 79 (internet-based) points or IELTS minimum score 6.5. Proficiency in German is no requirement as the whole programme is taught in English

Dual Degree

We will be able to offer a dual degree programme to our best students. Details about the application process and the procedures, as well as an introductory presentation, will be given during your first semester in Schmalkalden.

We have dual degree agreements which will give you access to an MBA degree at different leading business schools in the United States, and to a Master of Science degree at a superior university in Canada.


As a student of the University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden, you will be exempted from tuition fees at all our partner universities. Coordinated curriculums at both universities allow you to complete both programmes without loss of time.

Tuition fee

As the University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden is a public university, there are no tuition fees covered for any studies on our behalf. The only fee you will have to pay with a subscription to the FH Schmalkalden is an administrative fee of currently € 82 per semester (including a local train ticket in the area of Thuringia). Therefore you should consider expenses of about € 328 for a regular study term of 4 semesters.

Small university - with a wide range of academic alternatives There are currently about 3000 students at the University of Applied Sciences Schmalkalden located in the geographic center of Germany. A success story: since 1991 the number of students has risen more than tenfold from 233 to 3000. There are about 70 professors supporting the 3000 students, giving an excellent student-faculty ratio. The fact that studying at FH Schmalkalden is an attractive alternative is reflected in the university's modern equipment and the new degree courses which have been designed with the future in mind.
