Online Master of Arts in Education

University of Findlay's online Master of Arts in Education allows you to take the next step in your career while working around your schedule as a busy professional. There is no set class time where you need to be chained to your computer. We give you the attention and support to complete the work in your own time. While you can finish your degree in as few as 18​ months, the courses you take can be applied to your degree for up to 7 years.

Reading

Lead your students to success with advanced reading techniques that can be applied to special needs classrooms, assessments and research. The coursework required for this strand is the same courses required for the Reading Endorsement. This is a great option for educators looking to advance their careers, but may not be ready for a full masters workload.

STE(A)M - Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Math 

​A partnership with Discovery Education, these courses focus on topics such as leading innovation in schools today, inquiry-based science instruction, science and technology for educators, differentiated instruction, children’s literature across the curriculum, and school leadership, participants learn concepts online that can be readily applied in the classroom the next day.

Findlay's Master of Arts in Education (MAE) ​program consists of 33 credit hours

Admissions are rolling with classes starting in the fall, summer, and spring semesters each year. Apply today to start classes on May 18, 2020, ​or August 17, 2020.​

Course Options

Students looking to study entirely on Findlay's campus can focus their studies on human resource development (HRD) or choose a specialization from Findlay's graduate course offerings.​

​​Human Resource Development​

Businesses today are recognizing the importance of employee development and training. There's an increasing demand for human resource professionals who can design and implement training programs and establish a learning dynamic for the entire organization.

Building on the strong foundation of the Master of Arts in Education Program, the Human Resource Development Strand features courses with a focus on employee education.
Students earning a Master of Arts in Education in Human Resource Development must complete:

  • ​Graduate Education Core (five courses),
  • Human Resource Development Strand (three courses), and 
  • Complete three courses from one of the following areas:
    • Leadership
    • Training and Development​

Generalist Master's in Education

The generalist MAE program was made to be tailored to your personal and professional goals by allowing our students to choose the classes that are right for them.

Students earning a Master of Arts in Education must complete:

    • Graduate Education Core (five courses) and
    • 18 credit hours of graduate-level courses​.

The Master of Arts in Education (MAE) at the University of Findlay is built around ‘Educational Leadership’. Faculty members in the College of Education will help you customize your MAE degree to meet your professional career goals and academic interests. Findlay’s faculty of experienced teachers, educational administrators and human resource development professionals care about you and your future success.  Findlay's MAE program:

  • Is offered entirely on campus.
  • Can be completed in as few as 18 months.
  • Arranges a designated international student advisor to help students plan their program of study, register for classes and offer support through the degree program.
  • Encourages students to share their home culture in the classroom.
  • Teaches course content in a culturally relevant manner that can be applied to other countries.

Areas of Study

International students looking to study on Findlay's campus can focus their studies on human resource development (HRD) or choose a specialization from Findlay's graduate course offerings. Human Resource Development (HRD) The HRD focus is designed to meet the growing demand for qualified training and development professionals by providing graduates with the knowledge base, skills, training and practical experience necessary for leadership roles in adult and continuing education.

Students earning a Master of Arts in Education in Human Resource Development must complete:
  • Graduate Education Core (five courses)
  • Human Resource Development Strand (three courses)
  • Complete three courses from one of the following areas:

Leadership - Increase your knowledge of effective leadership through interactions and strategy implementation.  

Training and Development - For current and aspiring Human Resources professionals looking to gain a new perspective on management and organizational techniques. 

Choose your own focus

If you are interested in a career outside of human resources, you can choose to pursue a generalist degree. The generalist MAE program was made to be tailored to your personal and professional goals by allowing our students to choose the classes that are right for them.  This path consists of five education courses and your choice of any 18 graduate credit hours. This means that you get to choose classes that are offered at Findlay that match your individual interests to tailor your degree to your needs.


Students earning a Master of Arts in Education must complete:

  • ​Graduate Education Core (five courses)
  • 18 credit hours of graduate-level courses 

Admission Requirements

  • Original and official credentials showing completion and awarding of an undergraduate degree OR work completed through at least the 7th term.
  • Have a minimum score of at least 79 on a verified TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) with 20 or better in speaking and 20 or better in writing or a verified International English Language Testing System (IELTS) academic score with a minimum overall band score of 6.5.​​​
  • GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale with a 3.0 in the last 60 hours of undergrad coursework or higher.
  • Three letters of recommendation if GPA is between 2.5 - 2.75.
If your TEOFL or IELTS scores do not meet these requirements, consider registering for Findlay’s Intensive English Language Program (IELP), offered on campus or online. This program is designed to improve your English language.
