Programme Details

The Master Of Arts (Humanities Education) is a programme which can support teachers who may need to respond with cross-disciplinary perspectives in the disciplines of history, geography as well as in social studies. The goal is to help the programme participants develop a critical understanding of social studies, history and geography with a strong grounding in the philosophies that have guided both scholarship and the development of each of the relevant disciplines and how these can be applied to studies of the social issues of our time.

While the programme is designed for those who have relevant background knowledge in one or more of the following disciplines and school courses such as geography, history and social studies, it is tailored for candidates wishing to broaden their multi-disciplinary perspectives on the development of our societies in space and time.


Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor of Arts (Honours), or equivalent, in a relevant discipline, or
  • Bachelor of Arts, or equivalent, in a relevant discipline, and at least two years of professional working experience

Structure

There are two options within this programme. You are required to either:

  • Complete 3 core courses, 5 elective courses, and a dissertation
  • Complete 3 core courses and 7 elective courses


You do not have to make the decision when you apply. The decision on what option to select is usually made upon completion of six courses.

Candidature

The degree of Master of Arts (Social Studies) is offered only on a part-time basis
