Program description

General purpose

To train personnel of the highest academic and professional level in the field of architecture with the competences to carry out research with interdisciplinary integration, covering the environmental, social and economic fields for the solution of problems of national and global interest from the perspective of sustainable habitability and resilient.

Specific objectives

  • Contribute to the development of technological innovation focused on the mitigation and adaptation of the effects of climate change on human settlements.
  • Promote the conservation of the historical and artistic heritage built as a significant element of social responsibility and quality of life.
  • Participate in the critical analysis of territorial planning and planning policies.
  • Encourage the dissemination and dissemination of these studies in national and international events.

Egress Profile

The exit profile, with respect to the knowledge, attitudes and values that are intended to be achieved, is in line with the development trends in the field of Architecture and Urbanism and related areas for the 21st century in the global field.

The program allows the student to obtain during his training the theoretical tools, the vocabulary, the necessary attitudes and the fundamental skills to interact in research environments, building information to propose solutions to problems in the community.

Upon leaving the Master or Master of Architecture will be able to reflect and analyze their academic and / or professional practice, aimed at solving the problems of sustainable habitability in urban and architectural environments, taking into account the main regional factors, as well as its relationship with Architecture and the human being.

He will also be able to interact with professionals from different disciplines to solve complex problems related to sustainable habitability in buildings and urban developments.

On the other hand, it will be possible to incorporate public and private agencies responsible for designing, planning, implementing and evaluating public policies related to the sustainable development of cities; as well as public and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that promote energy saving and conservation of the environment in Architecture.

Likewise, it will have the capacity to train specialized human resources, participate in academic programs of undergraduate, specialty and master's degrees, as well as in the organization of educational programs.

How to enter this postgraduate course?

Entry requirements

  • Application for registration and letter of reasons for admission.
  • Personal information sheet.
  • Curriculum Vitae in the CONACYT format.
  • Certificate of undergraduate studies and proof of general average, duly legalized, that certify a minimum grade of 80 (eighty).
  • Copy of the title and / or certificate of the degree examination, or evidence of imminent certification process.
  • TOEFL test.
  • EXANI-III / EXADEP.
  • Original or certified copy of the birth certificate.
  • Three child-sized photographs (2.5 x 3 cm) and a digitized photograph of the same characteristics, in high-quality JPG format and 300 dpi.
  • CURP, only for naturalized Mexican and foreign students.
  • Two letters of recommendation from professors-researchers of some Institution of Higher Education of the country, recognized, active and productive academically or members of the National System of Researchers.
  • Certificates of qualifications and certificates issued abroad must be accredited according to the Hague Convention or equivalent.
  • In the case of Mexican students or foreigners residing outside the country, the admission process may be done remotely to meet the established time for processing the student visa, upon entering the country. The interview may be conducted by videoconference.
  • Foreign students, once admitted, must attach, in addition, a copy of the documentation proving their legal stay in the country, as well as the immigration permit to conduct studies in Mexico.
  • In the case of applications for admission, in which revalidation, equivalences or commutation of studies are required, the provisions of Chapter XIII of the Graduate Studies Regulations of the Universidad de Sonora will be met.
  • In addition to the above requirements, the School Services Office may request additional documents at the time of registration.

Admission profile

As a complex phenomenon, architecture requires for its study the concert of multiple technical disciplines, humanities and social sciences. It is a frontier profession, in constant mobility and adaptation, in line with the sociocultural diversity to which it intends to serve or provide a response, based on specific sustainable habitability needs. In this order of ideas, candidates for the Master's Program in Architecture may have professional degrees in related disciplines, preferably with interest in activities close to the study, management, project, construction, administration and promotion of living spaces at different scales and categories that characterize human settlements, based on the following knowledge and skills:

  • The applicant must preferably have an academic background in Architecture. The Academic Committee will evaluate the entry of candidates with academic or professional training, in the areas of Humanities, Social Sciences, Exact Sciences and Engineering, as long as their research proposals are relevant to the LGCA of the program.
  • Possess basic skills for the management of computer equipment and computer programs, as well as the use of databases.
  • Ability to read and comprehend texts in English, complying with the level established by the Academic Committee of the program.
  • Availability of full time to dedicate to the program and fulfill with dedication and commitment the established academic requirements.
  • Additionally, the applicant must meet a profile that demonstrates skills, values and vocation for scientific research and the generation of new knowledge, dedication, discipline and rigor for scientific work, in addition to showing sensitivity to energy, environmental, social and other related, as well as a critical and responsible attitude towards the solutions that can contribute to Architecture and Urbanism.

What do you need to get the degree?

Qualification requirements

To obtain a master's degree, you must:

  • Approve the total credits and meet the other requirements established in the corresponding graduate program.
  • Proof of understanding a language other than Spanish, as established by the Academic Committee of the Postgraduate Program according to the study program.
  • Pass the examination of grade in the written phase and in the oral phase before a jury named ex profeso.
  • For the degree of doctor, to pass a general examination of knowledge in the case in which the graduate program contemplates it.
  • Comply with the provisions and requirements demanded by the School Services Office for the issuance of the degree.

Titration options

Once the requirements for the approval of credits established in the regulations for postgraduate studies have been completed, the graduate student of the program must pass the Degree Examination in the written phase and the oral phase.

  • The written phase consists of presenting an individual thesis by the student, in which he / she demonstrates competence for scientific research, in accordance with the research project developed, as well as other options approved by the Academic College at the time.
  • The oral phase consists in the presentation of an oral examination before a jury appointed exprofeso.

The registration cost of applicants to enter the Universidad de Sonora is announced annually along with the first entry notice.

Registration and tuition fees

Students, when enrolling in any of the graduate programs, must cover the corresponding fees according to the current minimum wage in the city of Hermosillo, as established in the Quotas Regulation.
