Master of Applied Finance (MAF)

The Master of Applied Finance (MAF) is designed for those who have completed a bachelor’s degree in any field of study and wish to obtain a postgraduate qualification in finance. The programme prepares you for a professional role in the financial services sector. You will gain the advanced knowledge, skills and competence to form a sound basis for financial decision making. You will apply learnt theories and financial modelling skills to conduct financial analysis in professional practice.

Entry criteria

Minimum entry requirements:

Master of Applied Finance

  • A bachelor’s degree (in any discipline) with a minimum of a B minus grade average in papers at Level 7 or equivalent.
  • Admission to the Master of Applied Finance is subject to the approval of the Dean (or representative). English language level: (International students only)
  • IELTS (academic) 6.5 overall with no less than 6.0 in each band.

Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Finance

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in any subject or discipline and does not have to be in finance or business.
  • Admission to the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Finance is subject to the approval of the Dean (or representative). English language level: (International students only)
  • IELTS (academic) 6.5 overall with no less than 6.0 in each band.

Master of Applied Finance

  • 9 taught Master’s Degree papers
  • 1 applied research project

Papers cover core professional knowledge and skills in finance, associated business knowledge and skills and a major applied research project.

Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Finance

  • 8 taught Master’s Degree papers

Papers cover core professional knowledge and skills in finance and associated business knowledge and skills.

Corporate finance, commercial banking, investment banking, stock market trading, managed funds and management consulting.

Time commitment and completion

Master of Applied Finance

There are 6 x 8-week terms each year allowing you to complete the MAF in 12 months of full-time study. The programme may also be taken on a part-time basis and completed within 2 – 4 years.

Note: Full-time study for a 180 point programme is 12 – 18 months and part-time from 24 – 48 months.

Each paper will comprise 36 class contact hours and 114 hours of independent learning. The applied research project will involve 450 hours of learning and research under the guidance of a supervisor.

Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Finance

The PgDipAF may be completed in a minimum of 4 x 8 week terms or 8 months of full-time study. Each paper will comprise 36 class contact hours and 114 hours of independent learning.
