Master in Virtual Architecture
The Master in Virtual Architecture, which has been running since 1999 and is constantly updated according to the methods and software that best respond to the needs of visualization and verification, prepares operators in the architectural field (architects, designers, engineers, surveyors and related professionals) to visualize projects in 3D graphics, elaborating the most appropriate method of implementation for each type of project and using CAD 2D and 3D programs and post-production and animation techniques. The final product is particularly sophisticated and, depending on the intention, achieves total photorealism.
Space and materials unfold and embody the architectural idea. Light becomes the essential synthesis, materials are adapted and exchanged, the virtual becomes a powerful tool for pure experimentation. The designer imagines and verifies, analyzes and explores, identifies with and measures the validity of their ideas, foreseeing their realization. The outcome shapes the most advanced way of static and dynamic communication of the project using the most up-to-date computer graphics technologies.
Who it is aimed at
The Master is aimed at designers, graduates and final-year students in architecture or civil engineering, junior architects or designers, who want to complement their skills and acquire specific capacities in current techniques of representation. The skills required for participation in the course design experience, familiarity with the IT tools, an awareness of 2D CAD and an interest in developing in their profession by mastering fully the representation and communication of the project, using the techniques that become available thanks to software advances. The Master Board evaluates admission on the basis of the CV and an interview.
The course aims to increase skills in the management of 3D architectural projects and their fruition for print, video and other audiovisual media for final static and dynamic elaborations (3D animation); verification of the project through the use of 2D and 3D CAD programs; integration with other design and engineering functions.
After passing the final exam, QDU Master certificate is issued. There is also an Autodesk certificate for the software used.
The skills acquired with the Master in Virtual Architecture are applied in a variety of sectors that might benefit from the photorealistic simulation, which is virtually indistinguishable from photography, of objects, buildings or complex assemblies. Testing and verification at the design stage, elaborations for competitions, presentations of proposals for the commissioning party, integration between the different design areas, such as calculating areas and volumes, engineering, structural calculation and the verification of energy behavior. Starting from the analysis of traditional design, the course aims to introduce and train students to a high-level in techniques for CAD and 3D graphic representation and advanced animation, for testing for environmental impact, complex simulation of structures, restoration, archaeological reconstruction, furnishings, through the choice of materials, lighting, the natural environment and plant species (including as they evolve over time and recording their dynamic behaviour in response to the weather), following a strictly programmed operational flow.

The Master is divided into successive introductory modules. The main educational lines concern the interpretation of the project using 2D and 3D CAD and BIM software; the porting of the data within the 3D software used primarily during rendering; transcoding formats, definition of 2D texture; advanced rendering in V-Ray and Fryrender; the study and representation of territory and fluid dynamics, the aesthetic control of lighting; the editing of tables and video animations; HDR technique and 2D – 3D photomontages for environmental impact. An introduction is also provided for management and contracts, for carrying out professional activities in the field.
The course "Virtual Architecture" will be held in Rome at Quasar Design University.
