Program Description

Psychology is one of the most popular subjects to study in the UK, and there are some state-of-the-art facilities that you could be using throughout your education. You will be able to work on studies, in labs, and conduct actual testing supervised by your professors. The UK is a fantastic place to come and study Psychology because they are at the forefront of psychological studies, using new technology and equipment.

As an undergraduate, you can expect to find courses encompassing animal behavioural psychology, counselling, forensics and criminology, childhood studies, etc. The sky is really the limit on the combination or concentration you are looking for. You can also see sandwich courses, which means it will be a 4-year degree with a 1-year placement in your third year of study. Bournemouth, Brunel, Essex, Hertfordshire, Kent, Leeds, Middlesex, Newcastle and Reading all offer some type of sandwich course. The sandwich courses are really invaluable for students who want to get experience outside the classroom and apply their knowledge before they leave university. As a graduate from a UK university with a psychology degree, you will earn the Graduate Basis for Charted Membership (GBC), which is almost always a prerequisite for postgraduate study in Britain.

As a postgraduate you are able to specialize in a type of psychology that really interests you such as behavioural psychology, criminology and forensics, or clinical psychology. All programs are 1 year long and may include a placement or a chance to work with your professors on current trials or studies that they are conducting. It is important to note that in order to study a clinical psychology program in the UK as a postgraduate, you will need to apply for GBC membership. Generally, you will need to provide evidence that at least 50% of your undergraduate courses were in Psychology or related subjects. Contact your advisor for more information on GBC application.
