Master in Japanese Development

International University of Japan

Program Description

Master in Japanese Development

International University of Japan

Japanese Development Program (JDP)

in collaboration with “JICA Program with Universities for Development Studies (JProUD)* ”

Overview:

This is a new two-year master’s program to educate future top leaders from Japan, Asia and Africa (and perhaps Latin America) about Japan’s experience in economic and societal development since the Meiji restoration, and its logical underpinnings.

1. The logic and lessons (both positive and negative) from Japanese experiences will help future leaders from abroad when they have to think about their strategy for development back home.

2. The same logic and lessons will also benefit future Japanese leaders if only to understand their own history and to become able to explain Japan better outside the country.

3. In this program, future leaders will learn the universal logic of national development and corporate growth using Japanese experiences as case materials.

Message from the President:

IUJ will begin a new master’s program “Japanese Development Program” in September 2018, in which future leaders will learn the universal logic of national development and corporate growth, using Japanese experiences from the past century as case materials.

On top of systematic courses on Japanese development, students will also get an education in international development or general business management and can receive an MA in international development or an MBA, depending on whether they choose the GSIR or GSIM.

The logic and lessons from Japan’s experience will help future leaders from abroad when they have to think about their strategy for development back home. We also welcome Japanese students who want to understand how and why Japan has developed as it has so that they can explain the reasons logically when they go abroad.

Hiroyuki Itami, IUJ President

* ”JICA Program with Universities for Development Studies (JProUD)” aims to offer participants programs to learn both (i) good lessons and challenges of Japan’s modernization (in regional and other countries’ contexts), and (ii) the experience and contribution of Japan’s governmental Official Development Assistance (ODA) to the world. These programs are basically managed within universities’ existing master/doctor courses. “JProUD” expects participants to be future top leaders in their respective fields/sectors and contribute significantly to development in many countries after completing these programs.
